I would love to have a chance at this.

I had the sale date of these sets in my Outlook calendar for months. When I got home from a meeting around 1pm or so Thursday I immediately tried to login to my account on the USMint's ordreing page ... and kept getting "Site is not responding errors" ... I tried steadily to login (by clicking REFRESH in my browser) through 1pm ... 2pm ... 3pm ... 4pm ... 5pm ... 6pm ... I actually thought the Mint's website had crashed and had no idea a lot of people got through until I started reading the threads on this board the following day.

In any case, I FINALLY got the mint's ordering to page to respond/load around 6:45 pm when I placed an order for 1 set. I only wanted 1 set because I am not a flipper ... I love the American Silver Eagle series and I wanted one set for my collection. I think ASE's are the cat's meow of coins currently being produced by the USMint. I actually have given them away as tips to various professional people, and most people don't even realize that "real silver dollars" are being minted by the Mint. It's cool seeing peoples eyes light up when I give them.

My introduction to this series is when my dad (who died in 1995) asked me to find him a way to invest in silver bullion way back in 1987 and I immediately told him about this new coin being minted (in it's second year of production). When he died in 1995 of congestive heart failure, I inherited the 134 ASE's all dated 1987 that I bought for him. I still have them. In 2009, I starting buying more ASE's and have several complete sets plus rolls of other dates. Every time a new ASE comes out I always head over to a local coin dealer to buy the new date -- and I always order 1 coin for those available directly from the USMint.

I would further say that if I did win this, since this is definitely being offered at well under market, I would donate $200 to a young numismatist on this board to buy a coin that they would love to have but cannot afford. If I do win if someone can think of some fair way to pick a deserving and needy YN, let me know. If I dont win, no worries, good luck to everybody.

Firstly, Thanks so much to Flyers for the opportunity to keep this forum wholesome and collector based.
Nothing against flippers, whatsoever, but CT has been a good home to a lot of us who are ADDICTED and need help getting MORE COINS!!!!

Please see this thread as to my predicament: http://www.cointalk.com/t194106/

    Nothing yet?????

Very hopeful that the order will go through although I see this as I log in today on the Mint's site:

    Order number:3832****

    Order Date:

    Order Status:

Now there are "BLANKS" behind both date and status????

    :(

:O We're holding him to it! LOL! Good one. :D

If that happens, the winner might receive a box of Cuban cigars and bottle of champagne in the box with their set.

    Thanks flyers.

Actually, if you get any financially strapped collectors or YN's who enter this contest. Please remove my name from the drawing, as I would rather see this go to someone that could not otherwise afford it, rather than myself.

I actually can afford to shell out $700 and buy a set off ebay, however I just dont want to (as that just feels crazy overpriced to me) however I would spring for one off ebay if I could get it in the $500's. I am hoping when the 2nd flood of sets hit the market the price might start to drop.

    Flyers,
I wanted very much to enter this contest. I tried to enter an order online, and like many others, was unable to get through, and then they were sold out! I'm not a flipper of anything, so that wouldn't be a problem. (I'm actually a bonafide hoarder!!)

But, like Winged Liberty points out for himself, I too can afford to go to another source, like EBay, and pay the longer dollar.

You are more than kind to hold this contest. I wish you luck with it.

    Kind regards,
    Lucy

    Thanks Lucy-
I actually think most people probably were wanting to order more than one set which means they could afford them. I think you should put your name in the hat to enter. Same for Winged Liberty. I do appreciate both of you being honest but you are in the same boat as a lot of collectors and should have a shot at this set at a reasonable price.

I unfortunately was stuck at work with no real means to grab a set by phone or online before they were all sold out. :(

Let me know if you want in the contest. Thanks.

Definitely. If I had the chance, I only wanted one set from the Mint for my personal collection. My original intentions would not have been to buy 5 sets to sell and gut. If won, it's staying with me. :)
