Here's my latest acquisition and my very first Kazakh purchase. Cost: 3 Euros, sold as "Kushan copper coin". Are there any Kushan collectors in Cointalk? I got fascinated with the empire after visiting Bamian valley years ago. I know this is anything but a "very fine" example, but does anybody have any opinions on a) whether it really is Kushan?, and b) if so, which coin it might be? The obverse seems to be a head, but I haven't a clue what the reverse represents (caution: I don't even know if I've got it the right way up), and I can't discern any script that might help clarify matters. Size: 17-18 mm Weight 6.4 grams
The obverse appears similar to a coin of Soter Megas. The reverse appears upside down as its usually a horseman. I do not have photos of mine, but here is a random Ebay aucion of one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kushan-Sote...757?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aac4abf8d Chris
I agree the head looks more like a Soter Megas than it does like anything else Kushan, and yes, the reverse is probably an upside-down horse and rider?/walker? Here's a corrected orientation
