Since it is Veterans day, here in the US, I just wanted to take a quick moment to say thank you.

Thank you to all of the brave men and women who either currently serve, or who have served in the US military.

    You are all heroes.

Thank you, Thank you, thank you for keeping us safe everyday.

President Ulysses S. Grant was a war veteran, and was a big reason why the union did not crumble during the civil war. I posted the image of the $50 because of how that relates to this day, because of the American flag on the obverse, and because this is a currency forum, after all. :)

Great idea for a thread. Thanks for bringing this to my attention... I appreciate everything our troops have given us, including freedom. I agree with Charlie, this country would be in big hurt without all the men and women who fought for us to keep our right.

    God bless America!!

    What tbud said....

Not sure, I was going to start one, but I saw this and didn't see any need in duplicating it.

I can actually make the connection myself now that I think about as I have some notes that were brought back from Asia by a returning Vet.

Whatever the connection we need to do a lot more than just thank the Vets with a lame 'me too' slap on the the back. First we can demand our government take them out of yet another useless wasteful and deadly political war and get them home safely. Then they will need jobs and thousands will need a lifetime of medical help. In the early 1970s I actually heard serious arguments that we should not end the war as it would create huge unemployment as the kids returned home.
With many of the Vets from Vietnam, Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan needing a hand there is a lot of healing work to be done.

Veterans Day is a day we can all forget the realities of wars and the corruption and deceit and lies that begins all wars. Instead we can smugly think of loftier ideals. Heroism, Service, Commitment, Honor.

    The Pain has only begun.

Why does it have to have anything to do with paper money?

    Can't a guy say thanks?

It was simply meant to be a nice gesture, to say thank you to our soldiers. Especially since I believe there may be a few folks on this board who either presently serve or who have served.

Is it enough? Of course not, but it was from the heart, and sometimes that is all that matters.

+1 tauferners. A mighty thanks to all those who were willing to give what they had to protect our freedoms. See a veteran, make sure to thank them for their service.

I would like to add to this thanks to our veterans by saying that many members of CT, many collectors of US coin and paper money are themselves vets, whether they served in wartime or peacetime, whether they are active CT members or have moved on in life or in passing, they deserve the thanks from us as fellow citizens enjoying our freedom and as well as our thanks as fellow collectors whom we share much with here. I thank our veterans for their service, commitment and sacrifice.

The note in the first post was an excellent choice, as Grant was both a General and later Commander in Chief who spent his entire life in service roles, from cadet at West Point to the top position in the White House. He didn't do so well later in life as a civilian after he was out of office if you know his history of personal tragedies with health and finances, but nevertheless, he too deserves our thanks for sacrifice and maintaining our union and freedoms.

    Thank you one and all.

I thought twice about posting to this thread, but needed to respond. I am a veteran (US Air Force) and I served during the end of the Cold War, my father is retired Air Force and my brother is a disabled Navy Vet. Veterans Day is not: "a day we can all forget the realities of wars and the corruption and deceit and lies that begins all wars. Instead we can smugly think of loftier ideals. Heroism, Service, Commitment, Honor." It is a day when we remember the sacrifice that all veterans have made in the service of this country. Veterans live with their service experience their entire lives. It is because of their commitment, honor and heroism that gives us reason to remember the realities of war. You are correct that veterans are not receiving the care and assistance that deserve. There are those in our society who go through the motions of "thanking a vet". I just do not think that we as a nation are ignoring the realities of war by celebrating Veterans Day, in fact it is a sobering reminder of the realities. BTW we are celebrating the contributions of all veterans who served, not just in the time of war. Just my 2 cents.

Dude, did you really have to bring negativity to a peaceful thread?? Why don't you keep your thoughts and comments about things like this in the political section or even to yourself... Veterants Day is a day we can remember those who gave their lives for our freedom... Do you really think that if America didn't always have troops everywhere, that we would be safe? There are usually reasons for the things this country does...

God bless America and the lives that were lost to protect it!:smile
