Found a website that says there's a coin show in Van Nuys, CA this coming Sunday. Anyone know if its anything worth actually going to. I am a low-budget part-time collector.

Maybe Charmy or Mark will know. They're both CA kids.

ANY coin show is worth going to! Why would you hesitate? You say you are a low-budget collector? So am I, take $20 to buy a couple fun souvenirs, no one will know the difference between you and a buyer of rarities with $500000 signature credit (or much less care). Just go and learn and enjoy. Its the cheapest fun you will find that weekend!

Visit every table. Look at coins you will never be able to own. That gives you a mark against which you can judge lesser coins that you can afford to buy. Keep your hands in your pocket until you ask permission to look more closely. Its the polite thing to do as most dealers have to keep three conversations going at once plus guard their wares and it makes them nervous when someone just runs up and grabs at a coin. LOL.

Go and have fun and post up a report on what you see.

I went to the last Long Beach one at the Holiday Inn. Had a fun 3 hours there, and bought a few minor coins. I'd say that if it's within 50 miles or so, why not?

They are held in the Van Nuys Masonic Lodge. Around 6 shows are held there each year. About half of them are club shows sponsored and ran by local coin clubs. The other half are commercial shows. This one this weekend is one of the commercial shows. There are about 25-30 dealers at each show, plenty of free parking and I think it's only $3 to go. So if you don't have any other plans and are nearby, I'd say it's probably worth a look. Since Van Nuys is pretty close by I usually go to them, unless Da Bears are on TV :)

One of my recent Blog posts was on the Glendale club show in Van Nuys at the Masonic Lodge... check it out and you can see the cool stuff I picked up there. Many of the same dealers will be at this commercial show.
