Has anyone tried to fit an Air-Tite, Kointain, or any other type of capsule into a Dansco album? Or even just HALF of the capsule? The outside diameter of the 'A' sized Air-Tites seems to be just about the size of a half dollar - but I'm pretty sure both halves would be too thick/deep. I've never seen a Kointain in-the-flesh, but everyone remarks about how 'invisible' they are (because they're so freakishly small). I'm wondering if a CENT Kointain would fit in any of the Dansco pages... Long story short[er] - I like the look of albums, but want the protection (and flexibility) of capsules or 2x2's. I've heard/read that Dansco albums are very cusomizable - that they can even print your own text if you want. If I could create my own album with either blank half-dollar pages or one of the millimeter page sizes, and if I could fit at least HALF of some sort of coin capsule between the plastic, I'd be all set. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I am doing this right now with my IHC collection, I have 2 choices. 1) All MS coins Brown in album and reds or red browns in air tires separate. 2) Glue the air tite to the hole, which is my favorite. I got the air tires in today and they don't fit, but my 1 and only RB IHC will be safe. Good luck Dan
I have been planning on trying the kointains and purchasing some various MM dansco pages. I haven't gotten around to doin it yet though. So I would like to hear from anyone who has
I'm assuming you're using the 'A' sized Air-Tites, right? What type of Dansco pages are you trying to fit them in? Half dollar or one of the MM sizes? I'm looking at doing an IH (+FE) collection too.
Thanks - yeah, I hope someone has some small-cent Kointains and some Dansco pages that they can try to fit them in... I'm thinking 20mm might work?
If you're using any type of glue around your coins you might as well save the time and money and not buy the other protective measures as fumes from glue will soon saturate your album and penetrate any coin capsules made. Guy
yep the ones that are direct fit, Its a regular Dansco 7101, but I will like put the air tite over the hole, to make it look better. Or I will get a plastic page for 2x2s and put them in the album with the air tites. The airtites don't fit in a Franklin Half Dollar Dansco though.
Check This out you can put the air tites inside these and these inside the album http://www.danscoalbumstore.com/coins-7000-dansco-album-pocket-page-p-8691.html
I use the airtite album for my A sized air tites'. Haven't tried those how are they compared to this? http://www.air-tites.com/air-tite_coin_albums.htm
I have used A-type AirTites in a Dansco blank half-dollar page. It's a bit of a tight fit, but you can make it work. Here's an example page I put together with presidential dollars. I don't have a picture, but you can see the backs of the coins very well.
YES! That's exactly what I'm trying to do! :hail: This is great news (and your page looks awesome)!! So, the plastic slides/windows in the Dansco still work? I was relatively confident that the AirTites would fit diameter-wise (I was able to cram one in a Whitman half dollar folder as a test), but they seem way too thick/deep to work in an album... I was thinking I might have to just put half of the AirTite in...
You can't use the plastic slides. However, the fit is so tight the capsules will stay in place anyway.
Hmmm... this is the kind of thing that concerns me. dreamer94 was able to fit AirTites in a half-dollar page, but you're saying they won't fit in your Franklin page. I've read about 'imitation' AirTites... I wonder if there's a difference in size, and if each of you has a different 'brand?'
Ahhh... that makes sense now. Do you think you could still use the slides if you only put half the AirTite in (to hold the coin in place)?
I buy my AirTite's from JP's Corner. Since he advertises various capsules by brand, I've always assumed they are genuine AirTite brand, but the package they came in isn't marked.
Its a real air tite, maybe I had to press harder I didn't because I was afraid of damaging my Franklins
I'm not sure it would stay in place as well. In any case, if you did that, you'd lose the "air tight" aspect which is why I'm using the capsules in the first place. I realize they are not 100% air tight, but they do seem to protect the coins better than just the plastic slides in the album.
