Ran across a $100 Star Note 2006A, serial KE 00213864* Also E5 Not sure how to describe condition--It is fairly crisp, but has some "waves" on it from light circulation. No rips. Tried to find on ebay to get an idea of value, but couldn't find one. Thanks--
It's from a short run of 320,000, printed July 2011--and so far, it's the *only* star run printed for the 2006A $100 series. Most likely more of them will be printed eventually.... If you're set up to sell on Ebay, you might want to slap it up there quickly; it seems like the first example of anything to be posted on Ebay usually sells for crazy money, and that might be especially true of this note given the current low production total.
It's uhhmmm... worth...... nothing... It's uhhmmmm... too common..... But I'll be nice enough to take it off your hands for $100... Now sound good?
This could qualify for the dumbest question, and for that I apologize, but here goes.. Why if the the note is 2006A $100 series, why then was it printed in July of 2011? I don't understand? I thought the dates on notes were the date they were printed? Oh my!
Majority of cash is never actually printed the same year as the series year. The series year is just the year that the new treasurer and secretary of the treasurer took over so they have to make a new series for the new signatures.. Thats all. Heck, I have a 1988A $1 that was printed in 1995! Oh and I also forgot to mention, they also change the series year for redesigned currency too, as seen on the Series 1995/'96 $20's. I've only seen it once where a note was printed before the listed series and this was with a Series 1996 $100. Don't think its a stupid question at all. It's a very reasonable question that I at once too felt dumb for asking. It takes time to learn these types of things.:smile
Thank you for the answer! It raises some other questions for me, but I will do a little research on the net for the answers. Seems a bit confusing! Thanks again.
Ask away! I don't mind! I know so much about all this stuff and I never have anyone to talk to about it because my family and friends think I'm insane for what I collect! Numbers, series, everything about collecting US paper currency is constantly flying thru my head and sometimes I feel like my head would explode if I don't tell someone about it haha. Call me crazy and laugh at me like everyone else does, thats fine. It's just my personality to think too much about everything. Nice to meet you btw, Lucy. My name is Travis but people usually call me Trav.
Lucy, What tbudwiser said is correct yet I want to elaborate more on this for the specific 2006A $100 series. This series was to be replaced by the series 2009 $100 note, but due to production issues at the BEP with the new $100 made specifically for this series, they have no choice but to run 2006A's. Numbers stated that they may end up printing more 2006A stars and that is also in direct correlation to the 2009's. If they can't get those issues "ironed out" (2009 $100 has a specific issue with wrinkling during production) then we may see many more 2006A series bills being produced.
I guess you have to stay up on who's who, and know when they come and go, yes? Maybe there is a good book that explains this? Fascinating!
It specifically depends on how many more they print because as Matt said, they are still currently being prodced. There are specific factors in determining the general value, and of the bigger factors is a picture/scan...
You could try selling it with a $40 to $50 premium but since it's so new you might not get any takers. With the possibility of more to come, the market doesn't have a set price yet.
If I were you, I'd wait until they finish up with the series before even thinking about selling it. It could bring nice gains if that run is left alone, as I said before.
I'll probably do that, although I suppose whatever premium that exists now goes away if they end up printing more. So does that mean that 2006A the latest, current edition? How would I know when it is 'closed'? When they finally print some 2011's or 2012's? [Obivously, I'm not that knowledgable about currency printing. Coins are a lot easier. In 2011, they make coins with 2011 on them.]
Series 2009 $100's do not have an official issue date yet, although I'd predict hopefully early next year, and even then, that would be an enitre year putting off the new colorized $100's! They were supposed to be released Jan 2011, but I think we'll see it Jan 2012. It could go two ways. I've seen cases where it turned out good to save it and I've seen cases where it turned out bad. For an instance, everybody predicted that there would eventually be more 2003A $2 *'s printed but there never were. Additionally, people had hoped that the 512k run of 2009 $50 *'s would be left alone but it's already grown into a full 3,200,000 run. One good factor you have working with you is the hopeuflly prompt release of the Series 2009 $100's and that this 2006A $100 Series was never even supposed to happen. It was a last minute planned series, not even using the current signers, and it even skipped ahead a series letter. Pretty sloppy, IMO, but hey, $100 is still worth $100 so who really cares? I hope this information helps. Do you even know about the new redesigned colorized $100? If not, you should check it out. It's pretty cool. -tbud
You and me both. I have one friend who is interested in this stuff, but the rest of my family and friends couldn't care less.
You can use this website as a reference to see when the notes are printed for a particular series and/or denomination: http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/f2006ah.html
Yeah pretty much CT is the only place I go to discuss collecting matters. While many of my friends and family will keep a lookout for me, they give me an earfull when I come to buy it for face off them. I usually just smile and say thanks. I hate it though when some of my family members will expect me to pay $2 for a beat up ripped torn written on 2006 $1 NY star as if its the "find of the decade". My sister did once keep a close lookout for me for older notes, but I always paid FAR MORE above value for the notes just to help her out because she was already broke. For an instance, I would buy a 1995 $5 bill off of her for $10. Thats just my nice gesture for broke hard for cash immediate family members though so don't be getting any funny ideas, lol. :dead-horse:Most of the stuff I bought off of her was for face though too. -tbud
Well, at least you have people looking for you, tbud. I ask people to look for me, and they say they will, but they never do. Lol At least, it seems that way, because when I ask if they've spotted anything that I might be interested in, I usually get: "Oh, right....I forgot to look for you. You're looking for the bills with the asterisks and stuff, right?" :rollling:
