I was just given US Silver Proof sets 2007 through 2011. Is there anything interesting or of possible extra value that I should be looking for? Thanks.
They contain silver over their counterpart proof sets (nickel, copper, etc). If silver prices keep going up, you can expect these only to increase in value.
The 2009 set has the 4 unique Lincoln pennies released only that year. It also has an extra quarter in it.
The 2008 set is the key and sells for about double to triple of the others even with the silver premium.
And on top of that the four Lincoln Cents are made of 95% copper which is the same composition as the 1909 cents.
Funny that Asian/China interest would drive a US proof set into demand like that. But it does explain why my local shop has no '08. They also have no '09, thanks to me. I'll probably buy them out of the rest of their proof sets given enough time since these are more attractive than 90%, to me at least.
Last year of the state quarters, last year of the Lincoln Memorial, Last year of the Sac dollar, last year of the President dollars with IGWT on the edge, and I think possibly the lowest mintage of the silver sets with the state quarters. Not sure about that last one. But that is a lot of "specials" to all wrap up in one set.
OK I will admit that in addition to the worlds largest ethnic group who have a large following of numerology is not the only cause but just a factor in them being so popular.
Thank you. I suppose I should ask, what defines "modern coins"? I know the 1976 bicentennial set was silver, but was 92 when they started minting the proof set annually in silver? What was significant about the Prestige sets? Just the additional silver $1 coin and packaging?
End of the Statehood Quarter Series and last year Lincoln Memorial cents were made. 2009 the U.S. Territories and D.C. quarters were released and Bicentennial Cents.
