I got 2 of these in change from a till Friday. Both appeared new from the bank rolls and there were a number of them in the drawer that I thought I saw. One is a pretty nice coin and I doubt anyone had touched it but me and the teller. This one has smoething going on with it and I don't know what or why. This is a 1200 dpi scan and it shows it pretty well I think. Any opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks, gary
No, I don't think so. I wasn;\'t able to try to get pics today. But the coin appears UNC. But the area over the face of Washington looks like either there wasn't enough metal or some pulled away when the die lifted off. It's like if you put a flat knife to icing and pull it away. I have a good friend who can tell me a lot about it I think. I will mail it to him tomorrow. Whatever it is, I really believe it occurred during the stamping. The area over the face is not a mere discoloration or fingerprint. It seems to be a thin removal of the metal. I don't see signs of abrasion either. As I said it seems as if the veneer or that part of the outside that has luster was lifted off. gary
i see where your getting at, and i also see it to! (i used a putty knife and icing...) which would be a lam error of some sort right, and also mint error. lets see what your friend thinks first though.
I got the quarter back from my friend today. He says it's a strike through. Not grease, but something hard enough to imprint on the metal. I was thinking possibly plating from a earlier coin ? I am gonna toss it in a flip and keep it in the "errors" book. I doubt it has any value other than the fact that I found it. lol
