Vess, no offense intended, but one-sided polls are for politicians. The true value of any poll is when it allows you to weigh all the possibilities, positive and negative.

No one said anything about hating anyone. I just don't like the Mint's pricing. Until I cancelled all of my subscriptions in 2008, I was spending about $8K a year at the Mint.

Chris, that is harsh. You are, (were), the type of customer that the mint should have reached out to for this offering. Good customers of the mint should have been eligible to lock in one set of these first, then the rest of the public one set per household, then open up orders for up to 4 more per household.

I know the mint got a ton of free publicity with structuring this offer this way, but also somewhat a black eye towards some customers I imagine. First rule of business, take care of your regular customers first.

There is no such thing as a regular customer where the Mint is concerned. You could spend $100K a year, but if you weren't able to get through to them via internet or phone and you missed out, that's tough cookies.

As for the people who had to wait for hours at their computer or phone, this isn't the first time the Mint has had this problem. You'd think they'd try to improve their ordering system, but they just don't care whether you get through or not. If someone gives up, there are thousands more behind them.

He has been trolling every thread that mentions the SAE set. Not sure what his beef is, but he has been downing anyone who is excited and talking about it. Guess we are only allowed to like and collect what he likes. I had some respect for him up until now.

Hey Chris. No offense taken. The poll isnt about taking sides. It was intended for everyone who was interested in the set and what people intended to do with them. I suppose i could have added a I never wanted one answer. But I still think the over all relevance of that figure meant little to the poll.

We can say millions of people didnt want one because there are that many people who dont collect at all. The collectors that didnt want one pretty much blend in with that number. If some are disgruntled with the mint and their policies, theyre not left out. A vent thread was started in the bullion forum.

Goldmember, I would simply state for the record that Chris is a huge asset here, and everyone would be wise to listen to him. I don't see him as trolling posts about these ASE, just offering his input, which everyone here on CT should be free to do.

Lets just let a few days past, and I am sure you will be pleased in the future that you had unignored him. I have no idea how to ignore someone on this board, and personally am glad I do not. I respect everyone's input, agree with some more than others, but appreciate all just the same.

The best way to truly know what your opinion is is by someone challenging them.

For those that think the mint cares for the small time one set collector they need to look at how the mint sells most of the bullion coins it's not to the public. They direct ship to about ten wholesaler's that then sell to the public. Oh and their main customer is the Federal Reserve that buys about a million or so coins for every collector coin sold.
Just be glad that they even made the set available to the public direct in this case. They could of just sent them out to the favored customers and they would of reaped the profits just like the first release of the pucks did with the initial 100% mark up or so.

    Just a little fun math.

    $299 x 100,000 =

    $29,900,000.

Yes, that's almost 30 million dollars.
Granted there's some pretty hefty production costs here.... the silver alone.

    Just an interesting thought.

    That's all for now.

Thanks, Chris, I appreciate the kind words. I'm not going to bother trying to explain my point to him again because he has already proven that he has closed his mind to anyone who disagrees with him. I think it's funny that he claims that I am trolling every thread pertaining to the 25th set because I've only posted to this one and the one I started asking others to please not start thread after thread after thread after thread after thread after thread about the same topic.

He can ignore me if he wants. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, but I won't be "ignoring" him because I'll be curious to see who he attacks next just because they don't agree with him.

Seriously, what is your problem with me X115? I posted on the other post about ASE, after you stated that you buy slabs and therefor "protected", that you and anyone like you would probably be better served to also learn to grade yourself, (as even identically graded slabs can have varying values). You then went on a diatribe on that post about me, and now you are posting ill-will posts here about me.

I am SERIOUSLY sorry I offered helpful advice, (advice I believe 99% of experienced collectors here would also give), and I am SERIOUSLY sorry I tried to help. You shall not have to worry me insulting you with friendly help ever again.

I guess I am just a jerk trying to post such silly advice to fellow collectors. My bad.

    Chris

P.S. My wife might say I look a little like Yoda when I first wake up, but other than that its the first time I have been compared to that wonderful Jim Henson creation. I usually consider myself more of a Kermit kind of a guy. :)

Ya know? I was watching the exchange between you two fellows earlier this afternoon and your're totally off base regarding Chris. He was trying to offer some advice and you exceedingly chose to ignore it. Look at my signature line X115. Ya see the quote by Earl Weaver? I've been there and I know it well..........

That makes no sense. You are attacking a member that has shown no ill-will to others since I have been here.

Wow so much hate these have caused...

I love the mint. Love these coins. I don't have a problem with the way they released them. If you don't like them, their prices or service don't order them like Chris does.
I felt it was worth the time and energy so I got mine.

Now lets have a group hug.

PS I like Chris and Medoraman (what ever Medoraman means) :D

Yeah, I thought about that tother day, what does medoraman mean, is it med, or a man. Or is it Me dora man, like he really likes dora the explorer?

I answered that I got one set ordered, I will probably keep it unless it vaults to stupid money prices then I will sell it and fund something a little more stable.
