I think the Mint screwed up they should have set a 2 or 3 house limit, any one who ordered more than the limit using other people I think is was wrong and have denied other collectors, on the other hand everyone who really wanted one had plenty of time to prepare and have a pretty good chance of getting their order if you where going to be busy today you should have asked a family member/friend etc. to log on to your account and order it, I ordered 2 after 3 hrs of trying and just before 5pm ordered 1 more, 1 is for my collection, 1 for investement purpose and 1 to flip short term
Crying is too late, just like those who said they wouldn't bother till later on into the might or next day. As I've said before, metals for most people are for investment then a safety net/coin collecting. Are the ones who took advantage of the system to gain more at fault or is it the US Mint's fault?? Think about it, the 20th ASE set had what, 200 or 250k? 25th is limited to 100k, who is to blame? You can figure this one out. Like they say, "Don't hate the player, hate the game"
I will have to agree with the Bullion Bully. Everyone knows the game. If you didn't know that it was going to sellout in the first few hours, you must be smoking crack. I can't think of anything from the mint that has been this hyped-up in quite some time. Although frustrated, I sat at my computer for thirty minutes at noon to order five sets. Although I didn't know until later that I got them at 12:20 PM, I got them through shear determination. If someone has friends, family, or customers who helps them get more sets, good for them. That is the way a free market works. If you don't like it, you can always move to a non-free market country like North Korea.
Couldn't agree more on the $100 premium content. I bought 5 sets from a good seller for a flat $2000. I hope to get at least one 70 between the S's and RP's. I think that great profits will come to those who grade. My thoughts...
I couldn't agree more BullionBully. If the mint gives us the ability to purchase multiple sets, its our right. EVEN if there is a limit to one set per household, dealers and flippers would still get creative about shipping addresses and ordered many of these sets. There is going to be a strong secondary market either way, that is the point. Low mintages + lots of collectors = higher premiums.
for those who came in late. the powers that be were in agreement with yours truly for a limit of 1 coin or one set for the first week and then easing the limit slowly after that. but unfortunately the mint loses out if the big players dont make a play for the coins. so this is the alternative a dark reality. some of us dont see $300 in a whole month let alone spend it in a second. oh well such is life.
If APMEX is already offering a 40+ % premium offer ($425) the VERY SAME DAY as the mint sale, that just goes to show that the big dealer boys will end up with a heavy majority of these sames, especially if the average order size was 2+ sets. APMEX has plenty of cash and credit to purchase all 100,000 sets at $500 (I'm sure). If you haven't already purchased a set and want one, don't wait. Score while eBay is cheap, I'll bet we see these sets go closer to $1,000 before the year is up.
unless you want to wait a few years the last one went from 100 to 600 and back to 400 so there might be hope there. but someone will have to verify that info.
I completely agree Gold IRA. These sets are soon set to start going in the $550-700 range on the 'bay. And then from there who knows. I could see them settling in that range but I could also see them getting over $1000 easily as well once the big suppliers are dried up too. This set has tremendous potential in terms of value for quite a while me thinks. Also the mintage on this set is less than half of the 2006 set, so double what those 2006 sets go for today and probably add another $100 or so since there are two key coins in the 2011 set- that'll give you an idea of this sets long term value potential I think.
Oh another interesting thing... my first order today I got the 38326 order# and I must have accidentally placed a second order, order# 38334. I thought to myself, whoops must have hit confirm twice. I was trying to get two orders of one to go through and they both apparently did, about 20min. apart. Well fast forward a little while... my earlier order# 38326XXX said suspended but expected ship date 11/10/2011, while 38334XXX said on hold expected ship date 11/10/2011. I go in this evening to look at order status and what do you know... my first order#- the lower numbered one was not in the order status list- was cancelled. My higher order# is there though and still in hold status like normal. Things that make ya go hmmmm..... Its okay though I only wanted one set to give everyone else a fair shot, and I am hopeful with a still lower order# I should get one.
Thanks for agreeing justndav76 - To add to what you said about mintages and key coins, I agree. Furthermore, it will be the graded "S" and "RP" coins that bring in the real value. I would like to add 70's to my already existing 2011 silver eagle collection. I will be sending coins off the grading the same after I receive them. I just hope that PCGS changes their mind about sealed boxes for this set. They know the "S" and "RP" only come in this set. They're just hoping for more grading fees. Either way, the graded key coins will be the dollar makers in my opinion.
Just clarifying my earlier post for some of the whiners here... I only ordered 5 sets today in full compliance with the rules set by the Mint. I also had a couple family members place orders for themselves, also in full compliance with the Mint rules. I feel what me and my family have done is much more fair and in compliance with the Mint rules than the home shopping networks and major dealers who pay their dozens/hundreds of employees to buy sets for immediate resale. Sorry if some of you didn't get through to get your 1 or 5 sets... but my family buying up a few sets were not the ones who ruined it for you.
10 total here... As others said, don't hate the player, hate the game! I knew the 5 per household limit was the death of this set and if you didn't act fast you would get burned. I truely feel sorry for those wishing to have a personal set the missed out, I guess if you really want one that bad you can still get them on Ebay
So you were under the household limit of 5, but they still cancelled one of your orders? That sucks. I had read about others placing 5 orders for one each so they would have individual boxes to send to get graded. I was wishing I had done that but now I'm glad I just left them in one order. If you still want 2 of them, maybe you could call and explain that there is only one set per order. I think lots of orders are being cancelled so they didn't look closely when they saw 2 to the same address.
