The logical sense is that paper USDA Food Coupons are nothing more than a collectible now like the "food stamps from the WW2 era".

Yes, it is eBay's decision, and writing to authorities or arguing the case, even on this very influential forum, has little chance of getting your objection to the authorities at eBay that can actually change things. Buy 1 or more shares of eBay stock, and then write as a stockholder, or attend a general meeting to express your concern.

Well most of us are aware that eBay has had their head rammed up their rectum for the last half decade - payPoo only, making seeing bidders ID's invisible, the fee structures. They are a remarkable business model, how to take something wildly successful and drive it into a miserous death over time.

first off there are no more paper food stamps anymore.. so they would be considered expired currency and would go under that category , the real issue is the regulation with the usda return back relations.....

As these paper food stamps were demonitized years ago, and CANNOT be redeemed by anyone, such restrictions are as boneheadedly wrong as banning the sale of World War 2 ration coupons.

This is like a game of telehpone, no body atleast not I the op, mentione anything about selling current food stamps or ebt cards, we are upset because to date we have no where (other than ct) to sell these wonderful notes. Not to be offensive, read the article before you rant and do your homework.

And yes after 6 months of no internet the penny man is back

But they aren't owned by the government, so they can have their own rules and regulations. It is how many different places work. Like here, there is no talking about religion, but in personal life, you can talk about your religion all you want for cointalk is not owned by the government. They have the right to set their own rules and regulations. I'm not trying to be mean and stuck up about it, just trying to help.

P.S, Like i said, i'm not trying to be mean, stuck up or a smart alec in any way shape or form, just trying to tell you why they do that, and how they can do that. so please don't take offense.

P.S.S, i did read the chat log.

I'd just as likely write Taco Bell and ask them to start selling Sushi. It's the same think. It's their business. Their business model. If they want the business they will do what they need to so make money off of them.

So I'm pretty sure your wasting your time but I wish you luck with beating your head against the wall.

Lettow what is not what we "the op" is talking about. The title is FIGHTING WITH EBAY REGARDING SALES XXXXX.
It doesn't matter what he's trying to sell. It's all about ebay and what they want to allow. This is no different then trying to get them to let you sell Guns, Nazi stuff, ect... It's their rules on their site.

Now if he titled it "How can I convince ebay to change their rules regarding xxx" I'd feel differently about this.

BTW I have a collection of USDA Food Stamps myself :D

Please tell me something I did not already know. I understand that Ebay gets to set their own rules. The entire point of this discussion (from those that understand the issue) is that Ebay's current prohibition for these items was put in place at a time when their sale was illegal. The sale is no longer illegal so Ebay's original reason for prohibiting them is no longer valid. They have decided not to change the rule which is their perogative. Their reason for not changing the rule has more to do with corporate inertia than anything else.

My comment that you responded to was directed at those in this discussion who object to the sale of USDA Food Stamps on Ebay because they consider it welfare fraud or as taxpayers have a problem with someone selling their benefits for a profit. I have a problem with that also if that is what is going on. But it is not. The paper coupons have not been distributed for years and are no longer valid. Current benefit recipients are not making money on Ebay selling paper USDA Food Coupons. There are those in this discussion who obviously believe this is what is happening.

I followed this thread from day one, and the only conceivable reason I can draw from eBay's reluctance to allow the sale of demonitized food stamps is that they may be too easy to reproduce. I've never possessed or used food stamps, so can someone tell me if there are any built-in security measures (as with paper currency) that would prevent this from occurring?

The notes do contain security features, even including the $1 enomination, they all have watermarks, securityfibers, micro printing and even lead strips so the usda could count received food stamp notes electronically. The only issue is that every note that came in a book has the same serial number (not each note, they do have serials but are pegged to the book)

Tell you what these things are so rare, if you make a counterfeit $5 food coupon I will pay you $50 for it (this is a joke but the point is, it would cost more to counterfeit one properly than to just find a seller (which is almost as hard as finding a buyer)

This topic has become so unintentionally popular, I may just have to write a book about collecting food stamp coupons. Its just so hard to find information, I have lobbied the usda and begged them for mintage figures, but I honestly think they don't even know how many were made, and more importantly what % was cashed in and ultimatly destroyed by the usda. I honestly feel that somewhere in the upper 90% were voided, destroyed or lost. And out of the remaining 10% only a good 3% are in mint condition, which mine are.

I think we need to start with a website dedicated to this growing branch of paper money collecting anyone wish to help? I can fund the domain name and develope most of it but I will need help with the asp parts and gui.

    Thanks for the info.

Technically-speaking, it would be considered "Exonumia" rather than a branch of paper money.

So Duke (or anybody), let's say there's a collectible you'd like eBay to include as a category. And let's say they *didn't* have an issue with the merits of the item. How would someone lobby them to do that?

why fight with them when there are ways to get around them i have been saling them for some time now and and most of everything i post dose sale (but then i always put a buy now on it also)
i i would say e-bay is getting too big after all i heard the owner of it is now getting into rockets and plans to take people into space that is how much money he makes each day and now that he owns paypal where will it stop?
but then you have to ask your self this just sitting back and do nothing will hurt every one in the long run like in ILL the shcools there have outlawed sack lunches ( they have seen they can make up their rules also) and say they are not heathly for kids as many don't eat them.
if you think about it alot make up their rules as they go and not all are fare

I do understand that this may be frustrating for you. But eBay is not the venue for you to sell these.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Read more than I needed to and the bottom line is always the same, sell the food stamps somewhere else or better yet, just hang onto them. I don't know if it was you but this subject has been beaten down once or twice before. Even with frustration you will always end up the same. Fighting Ebay on the food stamps issue is crazy. Good luck figuring it all out.

Funny, I just went back and read the in-between stuff and I had already run across this thread once before.
