You are lucky. I have wanted to visit Germany, especially the Romantische Strasse, the Beethoven Gebortshaus in Bonn, and Bavaria for a long time, but have not yet been able to make the trip.

    1 Thaler = 3 Marks

For those who are interested, I am informed that the 3-mark piece replaced the thaler after the currency change. I.e. is about the equivalent weight and purity of silver.

Haha, I always assumed you looked like your avatar. That castle is stunning.
I collect German Empire coins! I absolutely love the 1/2 mark and 1 mark silver especially.
Thank you for the great post!

Yes and no. The Mark that was introduced as the newly founded Empire's currency was worth 1/3 Vereinstaler, and the pre-1871 Taler coins stayed in circulation - worth 3 Mark - for a while after the new currency had been introduced. However, it took about 30 more years until the actual 3 M coin was first issued.

Nice double monogram on an otherwise unexciting design. ;)
