I found this memorial penny weighing 3.05 grams that has no date. I believe it is in extra fine condition. although i tried taking a good pic, this was the best out of like 40 (can't figure out my camera). Anyone have any ideas as to the value? and what to look for as to get an approximate date? Thank you in advance, Luke a.k.a Auggie
Well, it must be from 1959 to 1982 since it's copper. The missing date is either from being ground off (most likely) or it could be a grease filled die. It's impossible to tell from the given picture.
Definitely not grounded off. probably a grease filled die, but there is no evidence of any date on it. I even looked through a 20x microscope. I hope this is a better pic. Trying to get a good one has been a pain in my arse.
And since the portrait of Lincoln was also bigger from 1959 to 1968. It is a 1969 - 1982 copper penny.
The designers initials on the reverse could also narrow nown the possible years it could be. But we would need clearer pics for that also.
Thats what I thought at first Numismat. But looking at it closer with my microscope and magnifying glass. I don't see anything that would lead to tampering. To get an idea of what I used to look at the area. The microscope can be adjusted from 20x to 40x. Its a neat tool for me. I am gonna try to take this to a coin dealer/collector and see what he things sometime this week. But anyone else have any info to give that would be great. And thank you for the replies.
