When reading up on Titus, I didn't notice a modern worth for the coin. Titus AE As. IMP T CAES VESP AVG PM TRP COS VIII, laureate head right / PAX AVGVST S-C, Pax standing facing, head left, holding branch and long winged caduceus.
Shooting totally from the hip...I'm going to say maybe anywhere from $70 to $100? Try looking it up on VCoins or CNG. That will get you a good idea of current market value.
Thanks. There sure were a lot of coins that were minted during his short time in power , but I don't think that I found an exact duplicate to mine. Will keep looking though.
It may be RIC 229: Titus AE As. IMP T CAES VESP AVG PM TRP COS VIII, laureate head right / PAX AVGVST S-C, Pax standing facing, head left, holding branch and long winged caduceus. The coin shown on Wildwinds sold for $222.50 in 2000.
I'm not a committed Flavian collector, but I have a fair few. Many Vespasian and Domitian examples, but just a few Titus examples. It seems to me that Titus coins are not as readily available as his father and brother. At least not in reasonable prices.
I just looked up the meaning of RIC and it's Roman Imperial Coinage. I've never had an ancient before and loved reading the story about Titus. There are stories behind other ancient coins that I'm sure I wouldn't be so enamored over .
The good, the bad and the ugly. It's all interesting. I hope you continue to collect these gems of our past history. Merry Christmas
Congrats on the nice Titus as! I agree with @The Meat man regarding price ... retail for $100 wouldn't be out of the question. Bold legends and the major devices intact make this a very appealing piece. A bit of background about your coin can be read here. https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=162150
@David Atherton knows his Flavians, but I would't think the wear on this coin will attract a bid over $50.
