I have an 1821 Bust dime I found in a u-Scan at my local safeway. What is it worth?

I'd say in that condition about $40 , really nice find .

The problem I have with it, it came out claiming to be a penny because it is kind of squished and isn't the reg. 18mm size like all of the other dimes.

The diameter of Capped Bust Dimes (like your coin) are 18.8mm, and starting in 1828 to the end of the series, the diameter was 18.5mm, so it's not too surprising that the u-Scan recognized it as being a small cent which have a diameter of 19mm. The diameter of dimes we use in the US today and have been using since the Liberty Seated dime series started in 1837 is 17.9mm. It's a nice piece and an even more fantastic circulation find! You could easily get $20-$30 on eBay. :)

Truely amazing circulation find :) While technically it is only worth about $40, the personal value I would place on it if I had found it would be much higher, since this is most likley a once in a lifetime find. I would never sell it.

Thanks! I was super surprised when I found it and thought I needed glasses to read it properly, but my eyes weren't fooling me! I sold it to a coin collecting friend, but decided I wanted it back, so I actually bought it back for $1 more than I paid.
