Took a half day to take care of my daughter yesterday so we hoped in the car to get some gas and I figure I'll go get $100 in dimes. $85 of it was 2011P's so I spent $30 of it for gas. The other $15 was rolls taped shut and they were skunks of course. Since I had time to kill we went to a bank a couple towns over to see what they had for dimes. They are a small town bank and don't get boxes just rolls brought in from customers. Picked up $250 worth of CWR and scored 2 x 1948 Roosie, 1X 1964 Roosie, & 1 X 1943 Merc (almost full bands).

Much better start to this week and I have two boxes of halves to pick up today.

What is the oldest Mercury Dime anyone has pulled from circulation? I have pulled 10 so far and they have all been from the 40's. Mostly 44's and 45's.

I have found 4 Mercury's with the oldest being 1935. The others were from the 40's.

A friend of mine at my job claims to have found a 1918 Merc recently, I have yet to see it.

'24, IIRC. Found it in one of my earliest dime boxes with 18 other Mercs. I know one of our regulars pulled a '16, but don't remember who.

18 Mercs in one box, that has got to be some sort of record. A '24 is pretty early. Were there any Roosies in that box? The most dimes I've ever found in a box was 12 and it was my first one ever. I did find 16 dimes in $85 of BWR the begining of this month. The oldest coin I have found is a 1941 Merc and then the 1943 Walking Liberty Half.

I think I remeber someone picked up a 1916 Merc at a tag sale or something. Someone named Erin and it was legit, no fake.

Yesterday was busy for me. First got 340 in halves: 12 x 40%, 1 x 1964, 3 x NIFC. Then picked up 500 in quarters to finish my daughter's state quarter set. Pulled a few BU Parks and the 5 states she was missing...no silver. Picked up a box of halves, skunk on silver, but found a 2004, dull 2003, and a 1972 that has a completely silver edge- looked like a BU 90%er from the side. Looking more closely I could see some dings and scuffs on the rim and there was copper showing thru, strange though how before the scuffs it must have looked like all silver. Finished off the day with a box of nickels with 1 war ~50 2009-D, and 10 pre 1960's. This AM went to bank where I got the 340 halves and got another 50 and came up with 3 more 40%ers. Teller says have to order to get more...what a pity.

1916S. Oldest Coin was a 3 cent Nickel (in really bad shape), don't remember the year.

Roll of quarters, got a PR Denver (my first)

Got my two boxes of halves and opened one on lunch break. Good box!
3 x 40%ers - One is heavily tarnished/dirty - Is there something I maybe have around the house to dip/clean it in?
    1 X 1964 90%er
    Thanks

I've been going through about a box a week of cents, which is about all the time I have, for the past few months. I have found a couple of 1960d small dates and 1987 that was off center by about 45 degrees. I am sorting the copper from the zinc and with the copper, sorting the wheats from the memorials. I have a nice pile of wheaties with the earliest being 1911 and 1916.

When going through a roll of cents, what is it that you look for besides the obvious things like wheats and dimes? Thanks,

    Bruce

I literally just finished typing my previous note and opened a new roll. Third coin in was a 1909! Pretty worn but still nice. Here's hoping the next one has an 's' or a vdb. :)

Passed by a branch of my bank that I had never been to, so I stopped in and asked for halves. She had $21 worth in the tray. She laid them all out to count and I saw what I thought was silver. I kept staring at it, dying to get my hands on it, but she took forever to count (how hard is it really?) Finally, I got the goods, went to the car to check them out and SCORE! A jacked up 68. But I'll take it!

But my box of dimes was a total skunk. I haven't found a silver dime in ages. Almost doesn't seem worth it anymore.

    VA,
Strange, dimes are my bread and butter, half boxes with a 40%er are the norm for around me with no killer boxes.

Erin (AggieCollector on CT) picked up a 1916 D at an estate sale for something like $2.50. It would be nice to make a grand profit, eh?

I also picked up a 1916D Merc. for $2.50. I sold it in our ebay store for $860 bucks. I was happy with that profit margin.
