My grandma found an undated wheat penny in her garden. Good condition not tampered with. What could it be worth?

    Welcome to the neighborhood, Monty!

It is highly unlikely that this coin was struck by an obverse die that wasn't dated, but stranger things have happened. My first thought is that it was caused by a grease-filled die, but what puzzles me is that the field where the date should be looks so perfectly smooth. I just don't know!

Thats a first. Have you tried to weigh it?

We haven't weighed it ..we'll have to wait until the post office is open on Monday. ?? This is very interesting. Where the date is supposed to be is very smooth.

The postal scale won't be accurate enough.

If it wasn't photoshopped, then the date may have been removed by scrapping as indicated by the marks where the date was:

How does one "shope" a photo?

    What would the weight indicate?

It doesn't look like it was scraped but maybe? My grandma found the coin in 1951 in her garden and had it since .. she just passed this on to me.

You got me, Zach! I edited it for spelling.

The weight would indicate if it was authentic, if the weight was a tiny bit lower, then it would indicate the date is somehow not there, but if it is too low or too high, then we know the coin is not real.

So in your opinion, if was authenticated would it be worth something to someone? It is worth our time and money to get it authenticated????
