I'm not really into collecting paper money, but while I was cashing coins at one of my branches the teller had $74 in silver certificates. She went through them all and I bought 10 of the nicest ones. All different years and series numbers. Any ideas on which ones are worth anything more than $1.00? Too bad I can't trade them for grains of silver like back in the day :smile
Well, just like coins...value of paper money is dependent on what it is (IE, series, serial, ect) and the condition. If you could post a listing of the series dates and serial numbers it would be helpful. Photos would be even better. Odds are, they are worth a little more than face but not a lot...but there are some valuable issues out there. Basically, asking "what a $1 silver certificate" is worth is like asking what a "wheat back cent is worth." There simply isn't enough information to give a good answer.
Pretty much in any condition they are worth more the a dollar unless it's a common 1957 that is destroyed.
First off.. Nice finds! Second off... To asnwer your question; I'd grab any from the the 1930's series before I got some from 1957. If they are all 1957, get all the 1957B's which should and most likely be the newer looking ones anyways. 1957B had the lowest printing figures of the 1957 series.. Do you know how to tell if it is a star note or not? There would be a star as the prefix of the serial number rather than a letter. For instance; *00000000A (example). Also check for errors. If I were you, I'd go buy them all and check them all for things like these... What are the series you got? I do have to say, this thread would be SO much more funner with pictures...
Most likely they are all gone, they $74 worth and I took the best $10 out of them. Anyways, here are the serial numbers and years. A couple star notes were included. *30954427B - 1957 B *17237367G - 1935 G X7966537A - 1957 B X73984477A - 1957 B v23733797H - 1935 E T52330161I - 1935 F T07227224H - 1935 E C163934793A - 1957 G08025003I - 1935 E A83070786A - 1957 A Any value in these? I have attached a cell phone pic of the star note Thanks HOTN
The '57B * has deffinate potential but I'm not too sure the value. Nice pickups though man! I would most deffinately make an attempt to go collect them all if I were you. You never know what rareities could be amoungst the small stack.
Tbud, Thanks for the information. I figured those star notes would be the ones that carry a premeium if any of them did. I would like to pass them onto someone who collects paper money. Anyone interested in trading for US Silver coins (dimes, Q's, Halves)? Let me know, send me a PM. Thanks all, HOTN
