It would have to be examined by an expert to determine if it is authentic or not. Many of these have been copied and aged to look genuine. Chris
Agreed And I plan to do that with a local numismatic expert, but, for the simple sake of edited, what would it be worth if it does turn out to be genuine? I am assuming it is a fake, and as such worthless, but humor me all the same.
The $1 note is the scarcest of all the continental currency notes ... i have never seen one for sale on ebay, but I am sure they are floating around out there ... Also I am not a grading expert but maybe it would grade around Fine (if genuine) ? This is also the 1st issue (May 1775) ... so it's i think you could say that its the first $1 bill of the new fledgling government ... which is sort of cool Because of this it's listed in the book of the "100 Greatest U.S Currency Notes" at #48 That book which was published in 2006 lists the value at VG = $75 VF = $150 UNC = $325 However I bet the prices are higher today You might get more if you listed it on an auction on ebay. As there is usually a good amount of interest in these notes.
Take it to Pawn Stars and have Rick's expert examine it! Then he can give you a low-ball offer. Chris
It was a gift from my mother back in the early 1980's and it is a bit rough. I've got a close friend who is a somewhat experienced collector and he's going to introduce me to someone who may be able to shed more light on it. I was just curious if it was worth anything.
