    with there being so many pennies out there that are "collectiable" what ones do you keep? I seen where ppl say pennies that date Pre 1982 have more copper and are worth more than 1cent, but i have a ton of these and dont know how many to keep. I know to keep the obvious dates and to look for errors and the big things but how many pennies to keep? just woundering what some of everyone elses strategies are for keeping lincolns and wheats?

    You'll likely get a different response from every person that replies :)

    As a Cent collector I focus primarily on Error's and Varieties. I sort through hundred of coins each month and put most back in to circulation. For me it's about "the hunt".

    In regards to what I hold on to -

    * Key Dates
    * RPMs
    * Doubled Dies

    At some point in time I'll likely parse my collection down by relinquishing minor error and variety coins of which I have doubles. However, that will be a LONG time from now as I just don't have all that many to begin with.

    I also collect cents, and I'll admit it, I go through ummm about 75,000 cents a month( call me crazy) and save the coppers... I hope that the mint lifts the melt ban and they disapear from circulation and are worth maybe 3-4 cents a piece. I also save errors ect. like most people.

    If you're ever down in what's left Joplin area let me know. I know a guy down there that has a basement full of wheats. like 3.2 mil.

    Well some might have more copper but hardly worth hanging on to unless your into scrap metal and such and even then I think the buyers would probably seriously frown on someone trying to dump pennies for copper~lol I keep the older wheat cents, key dates and since I'm an east coaster I keep most/all the S's.

    I keep anything I need for my Dansco album, wheats, and anything made before 1982. I sell my copper pennies for two cents a piece and use the profits to buy silver. Silver takes up less space.

    What's left of it anyway. That's where I'm from. Now half the town is nothing but streets and sidewalks leading to steps with foundations....Nothing more...
