Coca-Cola silver art bars will do well on ebay. I have seen many of them that will sell from as low $10 over spot silver to several hundred's of dollars on ebay. The last The Youngstown Coca-Cola silver art bar auction that I saw fetched a winning bid of $752 one bay last year (serial # 1). The one before that fetched a winning bid of $730 on ebay. The Youngstown bar is a very hard to find and ebay buyers will bid it up.
The fact that the BIN's are set too high is the reason for a rare and semi-rare silver art bar that will not sell on ebay. I have seen several Coca-Cola and other rare and semi-rare silver art bars that end up not having any winning bids because the starting bid is way too high. I have been on ebay watching a lot of Coca-Cola silver art bar winning bids and the give me an idea of what certain Coca-Cola silver art bars will sell for. When I see a new Coca-Cola silver art bar auction with a starting bid that is too high, then it will not fetch any bids. If the BIN is set too high, then it either 1.) Will not sell at that price or 2.) Will sell very slowly (several months) at that price. Even in this bad economy, Coca-Cola silver art bars are selling very well based on what I have seen. Coca-Cola and rare silver art bars will sell in any type of economy good or bad. How that seller prices it makes a big difference on what price they will end up getting for it. That is just my take on this.
The Youngstown Coca-Cola silver art bar is a highly desirable item today based on past auctions that I have seen. The last two Youngstown Coca-Cola silver art bar auctions that I have seen have fetched winning bids of $730 and $752. It is hard to predict what will happen to premiums on Coca-Cola silver art bars in the future. Based on past observations of this particular Coca-Cola art bar, then I will venture an educated guess by saying if another Youngstown Coca-Cola silver art bar shows up on ebay, then it will generate a lot of bids and probably have another winning bid that will more than likely be in the $700 range. If the starting price is set at some crazy high price (i.e. $1500 for example), then it will not get any bids. As far as I am concerned, the Youngstown Coca-Cola silver art bar will ALWAYS fetch a premium that is way over spot silver price.
I have also seen Coca-Cola silver art bars at coin shows at .999 generic silver premiums but the dealers who sell them at coin shows (with some exceptions) will treat them as .999 generic silver. The dealers will not care about rarity value or collectable value. They will just care about metal content and will price it accordingly. Of course they are cheating themselves out of extra money by selling them for only .999 generic premiums. Coca-Cola silver art bars will ALWAYS have a collectible premium on ebay. I am saying this based on past observations of past Coca-Cola silver art bars. Ebay is the best place to sell collectible silver art bars for much more than melt even after ebay and paypal fees. You are right that in the end that silver is silver is silver and it does melt the same, however, they all will not sell at the same premium. Ebay is a good example of what type of silver art bars will sell for what on there. You will be surprise at how much some of these Coca-Cola silver art bars sell on ebay. For example, the OP got this bar for a few dollars over spot from his local dealer. The dealer there treated it as .999 generic silver. The OP's dealer either 1.) did not either care about rarity value or 2.) did not know about how much of a premium they can sell for on ebay. However, when the OP sold it on ebay, it fetched a winning bid of $730.00. Silver is silver but it does not sell the same. It depends on what type of silver you are selling (i.e. rare silver art bars) and it also depends on where you sell it at (i.e. ebay).
That's very true I've picked up about 14 coca cola bars from local dealers for $2 over spot (regular price for generic) most I've paid over spot was $4. Not much of a premium however no Youngstown...
That is very excellent paying only $2 over spot for 14 Coca-Cola art bars. Congrats. $10 over spot silver is the most that I paid for a Coca-Cola silver art bar when I bought from a local dealer. I have paid between $2 over spot silver price and $8 over spot silver price for the vast majority of the Coca-Cola silver art bars that I bought from various local dealers over the past 3 years since I became a silver art bar collector. These are the same Coca-Cola bars that will currently fetch winning bids of between $10 to $100 over spot on ebay. I just got lucky over the years buying them for a relative low premium over spot from my local dealers. I still have those Coca-Cola silver art bars and I do not plan to sell them on ebay because I love collecting Coca-Cola silver art bars. I buy what I like.
1970 Silver Art: Refresh our memory as to how many bars there are to make a complete Coca-Cola set. There are X-amount of vertical bars, 1 or 2 were rounds, and there may have been a horizontal bar... I have several vertical bars, some from my father's Coke collection, and a few bought from dealers selling them only as bullion. I'd love to put together a complete set. (I don't have the Youngstown bar yet... sounds like a hard one.) One thing I note when looking at the CC bars is that some are bland, and only have basic logos, while some are beautiful with intricate art incorporated into the design. Welcome to the site Evom, hope you stick around and grow your art bar collection! As for the intruder trying to horn in for self promotion and sniping a bar from someone before they knew what hit them... Please members, report posts like this with the little "!" in a triangle, on the bottom left of the post.
My personal favorite CC bar so far. There is a Texas bar that is very attractive too. Would be next on my list if I were actively seeking them. Anyone else have CC bars? PICS!
There are a lot of Coca-Cola bars in the complete Coca-Cola 75th Anniversary Set. I will have to look at my Coca-Cola guidebook to see exactly how many Coca-Cola art bars there are in the complete 75th Anniversary set. There are also various Bronze Coca-Cola art bars and some rare Gold-plated Coca-Cola silver art bars in that 75th Anniversary set. The one Coca-Cola silver art round in the Anniversary set is the New Orleans Coca-Cola round. The Youngstown Coca-Cola bar is hard to find but the hardest Coca-Cola silver art bar to find IMO is the Coca-Cola Amarillo, Texas bar. I have never seen this one on ebay. The most common Coca-Cola silver art bar is the Coca-Cola Nashville art bar (mintage = 50,000). You are right in that some of the Coca-Cola silver art bars are just basic logos. My favorite Coca-Cola silver art bar is the Coca-Cola Philadelphia bar. I like the look of the front of that bar with the Liberty Bell on the top of that art bar. I will also be very honest in saying that I will never be able to put together a complete set of the Coca-Cola 75th Anniversary set. There are some that are so hard to find that I will probably never be able to find it in my lifetime unless I get very lucky. I do not feel bad about that because I love the Coca-Cola silver art bars that I was able to purchase and I like the Coca-Cola silver art bar set that I was able to build so far.
That is another Coca-Cola silver art bar that is very hard to find. The Texas-based Coca-Cola silver art bars that I know of are Amarillo, Abeline, Houston, and Dallas.
Ratio411, I looked in the 2nd edition of the Thomas Mock Coca-Cola guidebook and this guidebook mentions that there are a total of 69 Coca-Cola silver art bars and rounds in the Coca-Cola 75th Anniversary set. In addition, there are also gold-plated Coca-Cola silver bars and the bronze art bars and a couple of 1-oz gold Coca-Cola bars that are included in the Coca-Cola 75th Anniversary set.
Wow, 69! I was wanting to say there were 30 or so. IIRC, the other 'pretty' CC bar I was thinking of was Houston.
Yeah. It is a good Coca-Cola bar. I have seen most recent previous winning bids that range in the $50-$60 range for this particular bar on ebay. However, I am watching an ebay auction where I am seeing a Coca-Cola Houston silver art bar with a winning bid of $76.00 so far and there is about 20 hours left on the ebay auction. I usually do not see this particular Coca-Cola bar fetch that amount of a winning bid on ebay but since the ebay bucks certificates are coming on Oct. 3, then the ebay buyers must be bidding up certain silver art bars up to a higher level than normal. That is just a guess on my part. Here is the ebay auction that is on my ebay watch list: http://www.ebay.com/itm/75th-Annive...&otn=5&po=LVI&ps=63&clkid=3179747621175085604
Columbia is nice: Philly is impressive too, like you said... I have never seen this one before, probably my new favorite:
The layout of the Philadelphia Coca-Cola art bar is what attracts me to it. I like the position of the "Liberty Bell" on the front side of this art bar. Excellent piece of Coca-Cola silver art in my opinion. EDIT: The Columbia Coca-Cola art bar is not bad IMO. Like the Philadelhpia Coca-Cola bar, the Columbia Coca-Cola silver art bar is different from the others in the sense that is not just a "Coca-Cola Bottle" on the front. Just my observation and opinion.
I really like the coca cola collection, I mainly collect coca-cola memorabilia However I've become severely educated thanks to your informative posts. And If I do find a Youngstown bar at a local dealer, I'll send it your way. Only ones I've found so far are Nashville, Chatanooga, philidelphia, and Los angeles
I am somewhat familiar with the 1/2-oz Coca-Cola silver art rounds. One of those 1/2-oz rounds were minted by the World Wide Mint in 1975 and it says "Santa's Helpers" on the front. There is also another 1/2-oz silver round that was minted in 1976. I also think that there is another 1/2-oz Coca-Cola silver art round that was minted in 1977 but I am not sure of that. There are also some other 1-oz Coca-Cola silver art rounds that were minted. I do not have the following one ounce 1995 Coca-Cola silver art round but here is an example of what one looks like: http://www.ebay.com/itm/110459887448?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 I also do not have these following 1-oz Coca-Cola silver art rounds in my collection but here are some more examples of some 1-oz Coca-Cola silver art rounds: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-CLASSI...237?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c180a6725 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1995-CLASSI...263?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19c20249c7 http://www.ebay.com/itm/COCA-COLA-9...050?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2313a8a62a I think that there is a Coca-Cola silver art round that is a "1912 Coca-Cola bottle" and it is similar to the "1914 Flare Glass" art round. I usually do not concentrate on the above 1-oz Coca-Cola silver art rounds but if I come across one at a local dealer or at a coin show at a decent .999 generic premium, then I will buy it. I mainly concentrate on the 1-oz 75th Anniversary Coca-Cola silver art bars.
The Nashville and Chattanooga are the most common Coca-Cola silver art bars. The Philidelphia and Los Angeles Coca-Cola bars are much harder to find and those are excellent finds in my opinion. If you find a Youngstown bar, then you should keep it because they are very hard to find. The Youngstown bar is a very valuable bar and I would recommend that you keep it since you show a strong desire to collect these Coca-Cola art bars. I do not consider myself to be an expert on Coca-Cola silver art bar and I do not consider myself an expert on silver art bars in general. I am still learning about the Coca-Cola silver art bars and non-Coca-Cola silver art bars. I do consider myself a "student" of the silver art bar hobby and I am learning from others such as Tom Mock (Author of the 2nd edition Coca-Cola book titled "Coca-Cola Bottler's 75th Anniversary Ingot and Round Guide Book 1975 to 1988") and other Coca-Cola silver art collectors that are more knowledgeable and experienced than I am. I do have only one piece of Coca-Cola memorabilia that I bought at a flea market recently but I am not a collector of anything that has Coca-Cola stamped on it. I am really just a regular silver art bar collector that likes Coca-Cola silver art bars and those are some of my favorite silver art bars that I love to collect. Honestly speaking, my overall favorite type of silver art bar that I love to collect are sports-themed silver art bars that were minted in the 1970's. I particularly like the professional sports themed (MLB, NBA, NFL) silver art bars that were minted from the late 1970's to the early 1990's by a private mint called The Mint. If you had to ask me what my top 3 favorite silver art bars that I love to collect, they would be in the following order: 1. Sports-themed silver art bars (Major League Baseball, NBA, NFL, etc.) 2. Coca-Cola silver art bars 3. Greathouse Productions silver art bars Those are my top 3 favorite silver art bars that I like collecting but they are very hard to find because of the very low mintage numbers. There are also other rare silver art bars that I like to collect but the above top 3 favorite are the ones that I am currently concentrating on.
