You've got a 1973 Taiwan 5-dollar coin. It's worth around 16 cents or so at the current exchange rate.

I have 1 more question! In other pictures I have seen of this coin there is a 5 located on the bottom of the back side of the coin. I am assuming that the represents it being a 5-dollar coin. Why does my coin not have the on it?

The 5-dollar coin was downsized and slightly redesigned to include the Western numeral 5 in 1981. You can see coins from Taiwan on this web page:

It most certainly does have a "5" - just not the western style so-called arabic numeral. The large characters on the reverse are the Chinese characters for "Yuan" ("Dollar") and the figure "5".
