I traded for this coin today at our local coin show. It melts at $190 and was offered for $250 in NGC MS 65. I traded two 1945 2 peso Mex gold and $91 dollars for this beauty. An 1872 gold coin for a $60 dollar premium I would like to think I improved my position on that one. Really cool design I think. Matt
De Orc: cool stuff!~ I especially like the German 1/12th thaler.... I love the horse design, and I have a Hannover 1858-B 1 Groschen coin in pretty good shape. I have always wanted a larger silver coin with the same horse type design, I have seen ot ised fpr seberal German States but they seem quite expensive, the ones I have seen that is. I will try to put up some pics of some of my most recently purchased German States coinage if I get the time. Right now I am off to hit my local coin shop and see if I won any of the bids I put down on the bid board from last week, so I may have more coins to post in a few hours.... lets hope...
Might not be as common as you think, I will look it up when I get home later, but it appears to be from the Mexican state of Chihuaha, that is why it says "E.(Estado) de Chiha (Chihuahua). Some of these Mexican State specific coins can be worth alot more than their more common counterparts. I will check it out further when I return to the coinshop, I have a book with info on such coins. It is a beautiful coin with great color and detail, especially on the liberty cap and rays, very nice coin.
I've got the whole set for sale if you're interested...,, Also have the gold 5000 Drachma from the same games, which is the coolest modern Greek commemorative since the independence issues in 1970 (IMO). Anyway, got the set pretty close to what was melt. Not any more I'm afraid, but silver will be back(!) http://us.ebid.net/for-sale/greece-silver-coin-set-for-pan-european-games-bu-50404738.htm
Here's one I got a few days ago. It's a 1997 Una and Lion Gold Coin, Gibraltar issued. I don't know very much about it other than there weren't very many minted and I can't seem to get a decent pic but you get the idea at least.
Haiti 1830 100 Centimes Here is a Haiti 100 Centimes from the Haiti year 27 (1830). I found this one at the Westchester NY coin show this last weekend. The dealer had a few coins from Haiti & they all looked like they were crudely struck in an island nation long ago. Edit: I just passed 3,000 posts at CT and I don't know which post it was.
i have just found a 1912 s wheat cent at a flea market for 5p according to the red book it is worth around $20 in the condition i have have found.....european vf.
European VF = American EF. I would buy EF 1912-S wheat cents all day and all night for 5p each (and I have a LOT of 5p coins! LOL)
This is one tiny mexican coin! I really like this particular eagle motif. NGC MS 64. Although an ebay purchase, it is almost the only way for me to bring home nice foreign, especially certified Mexican coins. Matt
This one came today. I've been looking for one of these restrikes for a while. I couldn't afford the gold one, so the Silver will have to do!
