Looks like silver to me. At first glance I thought it was an old French piece from the mid 1850's with Louis Philipe I. But the front of the hairline doesn't match. It might just be worn down there even moreso than the rest of the coin...

How big is it in relation to a dime or quarter or whatever?

It's approx 2 mm smaller in diameter than a US quarter. I bought it with some other french pieces, so this seems likely.

Edit: After looking at the pic of the coin on the wiki of this louis phillipe-It is the same. I can see the edges of the letters. Any idea on value?

At this point its just worth the silver weight since anything else is not distinguishable. The French silver coins back then were 90% so if its a tad smaller than a quarter (and worn down that much) then we're talkin about 6 bucks.

Sisters, both G6's. Sometimes well worn Morgans are a lot of fun.

A worn CC Morgan is one of my favorite "What if?" coins.

You consider its origins in Carson City, NV in the late 1800's, and you have to wonder...

Just how MANY poker hands between WHAT characters of American History could that coin have been a part of?? :)

    Thanks :)

When I was a kid, I was really fascinated by the "mintmark in wreath" dime that was illustrated in the Redbook. But it didn't really dawn on me that this was one of those dimes until a couple of years after I bought it!

I do like CC dimes. I'm still kicking myself for selling one for $6.50 when I was about 13 or so. I had just bought it for $5 at a flea market, when someone offered me $6.50 for it. That was the early '70s, and $1.50 was worth a lot more than it is now, and I was just a kid, so I thought I was a real wheeler-dealer for making $1.50 profit on a $5 coin! But I'm kicking myself now!

I really like the Seated Liberty CC's, too. Imagine all the history that the coin has seen! Here are a couple of my CC's (all quarters)
