Check out this planchet flaw! This was kept in an old PVC flip. When I pulled it out and it came apart in my hand, my first thought was I AM THE STRONGEST MAN ALIVE!!! I JUST RIPPED A NICKEL IN HALF WITH MY BARE HANDS!!! Then I relized it was just a split planchet....
I think I like it more now since it split completely apart. Now you can see the inside of the nickel......Way To Cool,,,In my Califorina surfer's accent....LOL
Now that you mention it, it does look fishy. Looks like somebody took a saw to it..... lol jk What year is that thing? Looks like a '43/48 but can't tell.
I think it is a 1948. I don't have it with me. I just found the pictures on my computer so I thought I would show everyone.
I paid $2.00 for it. The dealer that I worked with had a red 2x2 box full of errors that he hadn't touched in years. I went to put them in the case at the store and he told me "don't put that junk out, nobody ever buys it" so I offered him $2.00 each for every coin in the box. It had something like 8-9 cent planchets, 2-3 nickel planchets, a quarter planchet, some very large cuds.. It was a great deal for me!
A very instructive piece. Notice how on the inside of the coin the faint images of BOTH sides can still be seen.
Aw, I'll bet he just dipped it in acid. It looks like PMD to me (in my best doubting Thomas accent). Chris:bangg:
Yea, I forgot to mention that he should immediately soak that in acetone. The hydrochloric acid trapped under that residue will keep eating the surface. The coin MUST be conserved ASAP.
Well, if you submit it, better go to ANACS. PCGS probably won't grade it or authenticate it as an error ?
I wouldn't submit that thing. It's cool to look at, but A. I isn't worth what it would cost me to have it graded and B. I don't need a TPG to tell me what I have or to authenticate it.
