Hey i was looing throught some of my familys nickels to find a date i might need and i came across a two headed nickel. It dates 1970 D. Has anyone seen anything like this. I would say someone in my family found it in the early 70s.

    Is it real or fake?
    Is this a mint error?
    Is this rare?
    Is this worth anything?

    Thanks

Somebody cut 2 nickels and glued it together, some company sell them for a few dollars. It's not an error.

The more common method is to machine 2 coins, hollowing out coin #1 half way with a lathe, generally close to the rim, and then accurately shaving down the coin #2 thickness to fit inside the hollow, and then decreasing the diameter of coin #2 until it fits exactly into the hollow of coin #1 and then little adhesive is needed to hold together. Often, it was used as an exercise for machine tool classes or demonstration of skill. You will need to scope the very inside of the rims, outside of the lettering. The photos don't pick it up well, but it looks like the bottom photo has the cut.

3 grams my scale cant get it to the exact ammount. Under closer look i also found it to be a 1970 -s with no traces on the side too me it looks lie a normal nickel with two heads.
