I would buy neither the $1500 nickel nor junk silver. I'd buy a whole bunch of other nice coins. I don't pay a 10 x premium for well placed tarnish.
But if you were forced to buy one or the other, which would it be? I too would not choose either since I have a choice but for the sake of the argument as to which is a better investment, I am curious as to what people would choose. Raul
NGC price guide values the coin at $325. I personally think the 6FS is questionable, I don't agree with it as it doesn't look completely full from those pics. He's relisted it as a BIN for $1501. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190576216708#ht_500wt_1361
I have a small collection of high grade, tough date Jefferson issues. So for me, the coin in question would be far more appealing than the alternative suggested.
I made the same observation and stated it in an earlier reply. So the " Return " policy is an important factor should I have decided to pull the lever on this coin.
I admire the coin as well but when it comes down to it I prefer to continue buying junk silver bags at 20x face then pulling out the coins with Nusmatic value and selling them. About four months ago I bought a 1000 face of sillver and found a 1916D Mercury Dime with old roll markings on the obverse (F with VF Reverse details.) I paid $2 bucks for it and sold it for $1200. So I'll agree to disagree with you. No harm done to either party. You collect nickels I'll play the silver market. In five years lets talk again and compare notes. I'd be curious to see how full step nickels match with silver.
One must remember or at least consider the fact that most " Investors " of these types of Coins, are seeking " Stability " vs " the Volatility of the Precious Metals Market. I am referring specifically to " High Grade, Low Population " Full Step " Jefferson Nickels. Not to be confused with these " Wow" factor toned coins.
Each Investor chooses different items which to invest in. Depends on your view of the future and the perceived value of certain items. Its hard to say anything is "Stable" in this economy.
Just an FYI, return policies from eBay sellers is meaningless as eBay will always side with the buyers who can SNAD for any reason and receive a full refund regardless of whether the seller has no return policy or not. Either way, the coin is seriously overpriced.
That's what I was commenting on. The Return policy is an important factor for BUYERS when purchasing and even more so when purchasing an item such as this.
