There is only one coin from the US I really would like to own and have in MY collection and that´s the Oregon trail half dollar and I like to own a MS65-MS66 graded piece. Now what ****es me off is that almsost every singel seller on ebay that has a nice sample that I like does not ship out side of the US. I have sold for 2 years on ebay and every shipment is off shore and I have only lost one and guess were it was lost ? This has never bothered me untill I started looking for a coin I like to own. What I dont understand is that you can cover your back and even state all shipments off shore are liable to insurance and tracking number cost. But yet they shut the rest of the worlds clients out. If I would only have US buisness on Ebay it simply wouldnt work. My best clients come from Russia, China, Germany, Europe and the US. I just dont understand if you have all that buisness why you would shut it out............ Ahhhhhhh I feel better. On with the search ! Siggi
I don't know if I'm allowed to post this link, but http://www.ebay.com/itm/1934-D-PCGS-BU-MS-65-GEM-Oregon-Trail-Half-Dollar-/350486133840?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item519a99fc50#ht_500wt_1199 This is PCGS MS65 and ships worldwide, plus it's a good price
Thanks Buddy I´ll look into that one, I´m still trying to find a decent 66 as I like to have it as perfect as I can with minimal toning
Hi Siggi, Have you considered this strategy? Contact the seller that will only ship to the US and confirm that if you win the auction he will ship to a third party within the US for you. then if you win have him ship it to someone here that you trust and they can forward it for you. Richard
That might work well especially if paid first, though most paypal transactions seem to only go to verified addys...perhaps another payment method will work for the seller...
You could pay the person in the U.S. so they could pay with their PayPal and have it shipped to their verified address, then have them ship it to you
Thanks everyone, I know of that choice and have friends who would be more then willing to help. But if something goes wrong then they are implemented to the mess. I would rather just be able to buy these man to man or woman to man or what ever
Siggi, Another thing you can do is to contact the seller and ask if he will change the shipping to Worldwide for you, so if you win, you will have the opportunity to have it. Some sellers are nice and will do so. Or you can contact one of the CoinTalk dealers here and ask if they are willing to look for the coin you want.
If those sellers are like me, they just don't want the hassle of shipping overseas. I only ship to the U.S. because all I have to do is put it in an envelope, put a stamp on and stick it in the outgoing mail. To send it overseas I need to go to the post office, wait in line, fill out customs paperwork and plus I need to know how much it will cost so I know how much to ask when I list the auction. It's just too much work for me, but I'm just raising a little money on the side and not trying to run a serious business.
You can purchase shipping for International auctions directly from ebay just like the domestic shipping. The custom form is on the label when it is printed. I usually offer limited International shipping on my auctions, but I add a handling charge and require priority shipping. The extra expense doesn't get me many international bidders. To the OP, I believe contacting the seller is the best bet. I know a few people who will check the box for no int. shipping, because they don't want to accidentally miscalculate the shipping, but will do it if asked.
I was going to suggest that too. And, I don't see a post in our 'Want Lists' section here at CoinTalk.
If you wish, I can purchase it for you and ship it. I sell on Ebay regularly and ship overseas often.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. Just bid on the item, and maybe they'll just end up shipping it because it's easier than contacting you, cancelling your bid, 2nd chance offers or relisting, etc. Also, tracking doesn't work for international. It stops when it's handed over to the other country's post office.
Siggi, you might want to check out Stacks-Bowers Auction being held at the Philly show at the end of this week. It's called the Philadelphia Americana Sale. I checked the lots and found that they have 30 (yes, 30) examples of Oregon Trail pieces up for auction. There are some real beauties being offered, and quite a few MS-65/66. Their website is www.stacksbowers.com and the lot numbers for the Oregons are 5510 thru 5539. Good luck if you decide to bid. Bruce
I am so annoyed by "US only" sellers, couldn't agree more with the original post. Main part of my collection are US coins and on a 200 results page on eBay, about 90% of sellers do not ship worldwide. Need to browse for days until I get a seller with remotely acceptable coin that can be shipped outside US. In addition, I have to pay from x2 to x8 more for shipping even though there are often sellers from same state and even same city, one ships for $2, another for $10, same exact Standard Int'l Shipping method. Just makes it all very frustrating, especially when I compare what I can get and what US buyers can get for same budget. I purchase coins/banknotes almost exclusively from eBay. Used to do this quite often about a year ago, not anymore. About 95% of sellers do not reply or just say "US only". Those who agree usually ask for enormous shipping amounts. A huge waste of time, worth it if it is one in a million coin you can't get anywhere else.
