I was amazed to see this ad that arrived in today's email. Stack's Bowers was the auction company at the ANA World's Fair of Money,
held in Chicagoland a couple of weeks ago. I cropped the image to remove the advertising. The ad was not copyrighted.

The 1975S (no S) proof Roosevelt dime sold for a record amount, in fact, more money than any other modern U.S. coin.

A lot money to fill a freakin Dansco - isn't it? Almost worth milling the 'S' off, and rehitting the face...

Here's what the pre-auction hype had to say about this dime:

Among the six S-Less Proof rarities, the presently offered 1975-S dime has these features:
    • No example has ever been offered at auction before
    • It is one of just a handful of great federal coinage rarities that has never before appeared in a public sale (the others are in museums)
    • It is far and away the rarest United States coin since 1874 (the 1873-CC dime is unique and is thus rarer).
This coin is absolutely necessary to complete a collection of Roosevelt dimes.

The article makes for an interesting read, as they were expecting this coin to sell well into the six figure range. Read more here:

Sales Talk + Sales Strategy= Good One Fortune to the Seller! More coming up 1975 No S Roosevelt Dime....Missing S..... Missing S..of 1975 How many pieces more out there? If you have one please be careful and guard your 1975 Dime with NO S coin switching always happen to a valuable coin. Watch the hand of a grader to make it sure they are not certifying a fake coin or altered coin. Do NOT TRUST NO ONE if the coin value is more than 50K.

you know... in ranger school the students are able to vote and "peer" someone out of the class. Maybe we should implement something similar. :)

Someone already switch my 1964-P no P with a P that lost the P than found it only to lose the P!

Won't happen. I guess Peter and Doug are too afraid to hurt someones feelings, although I think redwin has moved from just stating his opinion to being a troll at this point, especially with his increased posting activity over the past couple months.

Or maybe he got kicked out of his adult daycare and has unregulated access to the computer all day now.

Maybe I can send in my MS66 1982 no FG Kennedy half to see how it does. Someone may not notice the grade!

Wouldn't surprise me if he did. In some of the pre-sale hype they were speculating whether or not it would reach the million dollar mark.

I doubt the hammer price was any surprise to the seller whatsoever. In my mind this was an obvious mid-six figure coin. I daresay that if it weren't a modern, it would have broken a million, and that this coin *will* break a million someday.
