To all you note collectors, how can you ever really know how many of a paticular note are in existance. The Fed destroys worn out bills or bills that are non-current that make their way to a commercial bank and get turned in. For example a 1990 $20 bill may not be a low printing many could have been destoryed. I would suspect there are tons of old $100 bills hidden away and forgotten by drug dealers. More than 2/3 of US currency isn't even within the US borders!
There is no way to find out how many of a particular note still exist. With regard to rare/older bills you can look at numbers of graded notes or a census (national currency) to get a rough idea. Where did you find this stat? I am interested in reading more about that.
Yeah where did you find this information out? About more than 2/3rds of US currency being out of US borders.
I would think that there is a great deal of currency outside of the borders but again you could never give a figure as to how much. It would be nice to find some of those $100's whether new or old!
