The hits on the cheek and neck bother me. I would have voted 64, but since you posted it in the form of a poll, I assume you didn't like the grade, so I'll guess 63. Hope you got 65.

It's irrelevant if it is an "easy year" for high grade Morgans. They grade the coin, not its relative scarcity across the series.

I'm going to say this coin is a MS64. It has clean fields and is a nice example of the coin. However, 1880-S Morgan's are readily available in high grade with full strike and from what I have seen...the TPGs are pretty tough with this issue because of that. The coin has a couple small bag marks and a ding on the cheek which I think limits the grade. If it was a less common date, I would say the grade would be a little higher.

    Alright! So, here it is...

... It's a 63-OGH! I really wanted to know how many of you thought it may come back in a MS65 holder if resubmitted. It's worth the submission if it DOES come back a 65, but if it comes back a 64, then it was pretty much pointless. Although it is an easier date in CHOICE MS (61-64) grades, the price shoots past $200 for GEM MS (65-above) grades. So, as I suspected, the majority of you think it's right between a 64 and a 65, with a few more agreeing with a 65. Not to sure what to do now... Y'all think it's worth a crack-out? :) Thanks again for all of your opinions, guys and gals!

MS63 seems to be a solid grade for the coin. I was being too optimistic with my guess of "Ms64", sorry.

Even if it did bump to a 64, the added value would'nt cover the submission fees.... I dont see a reason to.

Wow! That has got to be the cleanest 63 I've ever seen. So if they were right about that one all the coins in my collection are overgraded...:D

The possibility of it coming back a 65 is a reason to. And by the results of the poll, the majority believe it is a 65 or higher. Personally, I believe it is SERIOUSLY borderlining a 64 and 65. For all I know, with the odd grading system nowadays, PCGS would give it a "64+".

Well if it did make a 65, it would be worth it!! Perhaps I'm a bit greedy, it's very attractive, and as you said, with today's standards, it very well could make it. Besides it's only $30, go for it!!

    Good Luck!!

Gotta love OGH Morgans. I'd grade it 64+... Heck of a 63.

Keep it in the OGH, by the way...

Submit for regrade in the holder but only if your willing to get it back as a MS64. If not keep as is the bonus of the old green holder may make you more money in the long run.

I would never crack it out as there is just the chance it may not regrade for something we all don't see.

He never really said he owned it, he just wanted an opinion. Probably didn't want to let anybody know it was on ebay....Less competition. Anyway the seller is another member here who is known for selling quality coins.
