Seated liberty quarter grade/condition

    Do you think this coin has been cleaned? Do you think it's XF or AU?

    Hairline scratches on the obverse keep it from an AU grade, IMO. It'd most likely get an XF45 by a reputable TPG. :)

    You think it is truly that bad where it couldn't get AU50?

    scratches aren't that bad but with the wear I dont think it makes a 50.

    This is a year old thread. I'll guess XF but feel it won't grade.

    As to the OP asking "whether it has been cleaned", there is no doubt. Look at the normal chemical reactions of silver will tell you that. The more pertinent question is if the cleaning would prevent it from grading. While I have seen such coins graded, my default answer would be it would be a details grade.
