i have a 1979 Susan B. Anthony coin i just got this for my change at wal mart. and i thought it was pretty interesting. also, what is the composition of this coin?
It's unusal to get one in change, as dollar coins haven't been well received by the general public. Composition is 91.66% copper and 8.33% nickel. I pick these up at the bank, mixed in with presidential dollars, for face value. Then I sell them at my l local flea market, two for three dollars.
yeah, i know. this is the very first time i had ever gotten a dollar coin as change. at first i thought it was a quarter until i looked at it closer.
I got one of these once from a gas station in change it was suppost to be a quarter lol. In my opinion, this was probably one of the worste poorly designed dollar coins ever. It is so similar to the size of a quarter that so many people have been known to mistake it as one. I have plenty of these from all years of the '70s.
Don't feel bad... I always carry a few in my pocket to spend once in awhile, and yes, they do get mixed up with the quarters.
Maybe it's this rare variety: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1979-P-SUSA...83?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item415cf41f97
