I don't know how many of you knew Mark Petty AKA Speedy. He is a member here but hasn't posted since May 5th (apparently he did visit yesterday morning.). I believe he was a former Outstanding YN of the Year winner. He has been doing an internship with Stacks/Bowers this summer in New York. Speedy was found dead in his apartment last night. I don't know anything further at this time but it is believe to have been related to an underlying medical condition. Speedy was 22 years old. If I learn more I'll pass it along.

I'm in complete shock. I felt like I knew Speedy quite well...and I'm currently at a loss for words. He and his family will be in my prayers.

...Wow, I talked to him when I was there earlier this summer. Tragic, especially given his age. I'm only 24, so... Wow. My condolences to his friends and family.

A tragic loss to us but more so to his family.

Note to the OP I just did a copy past of your notice to the CU forum as I know he was a member there also.

I didn't really know him, but it is such a tragic loss whenever we lose someone that young. My condolences to his family.

I used to get into it with Spencer all the time. It's a shame to hear this news, especially since he and myself were starting to become what I consider friends.

A great loss indeed. I'm shocked.

I believe these are two different people. The Speedy (Spencer) that was here is in KY working at a Funeral Home and lives with his parents.

I agree. The last message I got from Spencer was:

Anyway, I'm now taking online college classes and also working part-time at the funeral home. I plan to go into the funeral business full time, and after I get enough college credit, transfer to Mortuary college."

I met Spencer once and I believe he is still in Kentucky going to college and working part time at a funeral home. I also believe he might have been a couple of years older than this. My prayers are with Marks family, but I am not sure this is our Speedy.

I am so very very sad to hear this, especially for one so young. My heart and prayers go out to his family as I am sure this is the hardest thing they must have to go through.

First off - My condolences to Mark's family.

Next - I'm sorry to disappoint ya'll, but I'm still here. As Mark_H said, I'm working for a local funeral home, and taking online college classes as time allows. I'm looking at making a move soon as I feel like I'm ready to start my apprenticeship.

Again - my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

    Speedy
