To those that have the 1998 Matte Proof for sale, they are indeed the "key" to the set. To those that paid a bunch of money for their copy of the 1998 Matte Proof, they are indeed the "key" to the set. For those that realize that these are readily available and at a relatively low price if you buy the set they came in and have your own graded, its just another collectible Kennedy. As for acquiring an Accented Hair, I would encourage you to study the variety and search for a raw one in a proof set. It's quite exciting! There is also quite a nice DDO thats available with the Accented Hair coin (actually, lots of the Accented Hair Kennedy's are DDO's - 19 different dies) In fact, the Kennedy Series has some really significant DDO and DDR coins in 90%, 40% and CnClad which are rewarding to find!
Yes, most do grade 69. From the images and the coin being out of the mint holder, I didn't see it doing 69.
Really? I think the Kennedy's are much better looking. The Franklins to me always look like he is bald or has a helmet on because the detail is so flat on the obverse. In an earlier thread I voted it among the 3 ugliest US coins of the 20th Century. JMO. Edit: Everyone can of course collect whatever turns them on. Frankies are just not my thing.
My comment was in jest, a couple of our sets http://www.pcgs.com/SetRegistry/alltimeset.aspx?s=43295 and http://www.pcgs.com/SetRegistry/showcase.aspx?sc=1165
:hail: for you that don't know this kids been at it since before his dad would let him online and we were sellings and bidding against each other just to get in the top five sets. He is in my opinion the all time absolute Kennedy Nut:yes:
I beg to differ. The 1964 SMS can certainly NOT be ordered like hamburgers. I think somewhere from eight to 15 exist, including several whose whereabouts I know. And mine. It has been a couple of years now since one appeared at auction.
Definitely a Kennedy collector. Congrats on the new acquisition! I've used a piece of hobby foam that you can get from Hobby Lobby / Michaels for under $1. Comes in many colors, is firm enough that it won't bunch and soft enough to protect your coins when placing them for photos / sorting. Comes in a decent size (like 24 x 36 in) so you don't have to worry about the coin rolling off the edges and is cheap enough that you can get a few and replace it if it gets dirty / scratched by fingernails.
I thought that this one was Really, really cool! I was totally unaware, until recently, that the 1972 Denver Coins had any doubled Dies.
Bidding on a coin in an online Auction cannot be compared to ordering hamburgers in that the price for the Hamburger is already established and you know where to go in order to purchase one. If I seriously offered you $50,000 for your SP67 SMS 1964 Kennedy, and you accepted, why is that NOT the same as ordering a Hamburger? Better yet, if I located the other owners of the 1964 SMS Kennedy's and made a similar offer to each one, if even one accepted, it would be the same as ordering a Hamburger. Granted, its not as "easy" as ordering a hamburger but the biggest object to overcome is simply in knowing where to go when you place your order provided you have enough money for the burger. (Which is what ratio411 was saying) Finding an MS66 1972 DDO Kennedy would not be as easy.
Nice Kenndys, guys. Although in my opinion, real Kennedy nuts are people who only collect Kennedys that were minted on the grassy knoll.
