I found a bank where I can buy the "bags" straight from the coin counting machine. Been getting occasional really nice MS Quarters, but won't buy the halves from them anymore. Took two based on them saying this guy comes in and puts in lots that his "grandparents had saved", but I think if I got his, he is a roll searcher too. The quarters aren't great, but like I said, get some nice MS ones. I don't buy their dimes, nickels, quarters, or dollars. Think it's too likely I'd just be searching other peoples dumps.

I will go back to the boxes though, because overall, I think I was getting better there. But it did help me get in good with the people at the bank, so they don't think I'm just "using" them.

    Hey gang,

School started so not much searching the last 3 weeks. Today I drove to one of the coin shops I go to every now and to pick through their bins. I was digging through the Mercs (Being sold for $3 each) as they did not have any halves for me to look through. Bought 6 coins. I found 2 neat coins that I bought just to take a chance. One was an 1826 coin mixed in as it was the same size as the dimes but not American. I found it online. It is an 1826 Italian 50 centesimi in great shape and the last one I found sold for $110 in worse shape than mine. The second was a 1897O Barber Dime. I seemed to recall this one was special. It grades at least F-12 which has a red book value (Not real value I know) of $280 but I am fairly certain it would grade higher as you can read the full liberty cleary. I will try to post picks. You never know what you can find in the "junk" bin.

Here is the 1826 Italian 50 Centesimi. The pics are a little fuzzy but great shape for 185 years old!

Again, I am not the best with the camera so a little out of focus but I hope you can see the detail. This is the one that Red Books $280 in F-12 but with a magnifying glass all "LIBERTY" is there so may be VF-20. Either way, cool and a good deal for $3.

You'll never found out what you'll get until you try it out, You'd be surprised what people dump that might be of value some people are just ignorant and don't care, or they could just be like me and dump the 30's 40's and 50's wheats I get as well as my dateless buffs.

WHAT?! Why do you dump those?

pffft, Who'd buy em'? Its not like I'd make any of money on them or at least a worthwhile amount. Besides, I'd much rather have some kid end up getting a Buff or wheatie in their change and perhaps spark an interest in coin collecting.

I dump my excess cents (wheat and memorial) that I don't need or want in the coin counter, and I need that one to use, so it is limiting me as to which bags I get. I can't afford to have chance come where I keep re-searching ones I've already done. And, the teller at that bank already told me that the guy who supposedly had a good hoard of halves regularly orders a box of cents from that bank to go through, as that's his interest. Yes, I might get lucky, and find some, but.... I will probably switch out at some times. But I think that boxes and rolls from the teller's counter will be what I go back to.

Just sayin' that I would at LEAST Nic-A-Date the dateless buff's... never know what they were! I'd keep BU 40's and 50's wheats too... but for now, I'm keeping all.

Well, after over $20,000 of pennies that I have gone through since January, I finally finished my Brilliant Uncirculated Lincoln Memorial Set. The last one was the 1973-S , and I got him tonight. I am also trying to complete Wheat Set and I only have 27 dates left to go.

I got a box of Halves and an extra $360 from an additional box (all I had money for) and a box of nickels

    Out of the $860 in Halves I got 1 x 1964 Kennedy.
    Nickels - 1 filthy dateless buffalo, no wars, 1 x 1938, 1 x 1939, 9 from the 1940's, and I think 12 from the 1950's.

I did get a 1962 Rosie out of the reject tray when cashing in today. So a 90% Half and Dime. At least it's something.

Well, I am not complaining or anything, because I love any and all silver that comes my way but today I was cashing my paycheck and I ask for half dollars or any other kinds of "funny munny." The teller said she had $26 in halves. I snagged them all, and they were all loose no wrappers so I jam them in my pocket. As I am walking home I start to thumb through a few of them, transfering them from one pocket to the other. I found 2 40%ers, both 1967s. Now, I am very, very excited and grateful as these two halves represent the largest haul of silver I have ever had with half dollars...which is strange because statistically I should be finding a lot more of those at one time, and a lot less dimes, quarters, etc etc...but no. Anyways, here is my deal WHY ARE ALL THE HALVES I FIND IN CIRCULATION ALWAYS FROM 1967?!?! Seriously, I mean when it comes to Quarters I have found 1957, 1961, and 1964 (mostly 1964s) all in circulation. Dimes, 1946, 1949, 1961, etc etc. Halves, always 1967. What are the odds? Out of all the years of silver halves, and the 5 years of 40%ers, I always find 1967. I think it is an omen...of what I do not know. Maybe I will die in 2067? Maybe I will be married for 67 years? I have no clue...but it is very strange.

At first, I wondered why I was finding so many 1967's too; eventually, I started finding the other years of the 40%'s.

Do you see a lot of 1971's? This might explain:

Keep searching, you'll find the others too. :)

Hey Sorter, thanks for the link! I let a friend borrow my redbook so your link was perfect. I figured the reason I am seeing so many 1971 halvea was the same reason that I see so many 1965 quarters: oldest non-silver coin of the denomination. However the 71 half also has the highest mintage of the series. Typed this on my phone sorry for extra poor grammar.

Searched $60 in quarters. No ATB's for me :(. I've honestly found more Wheat cents in the same time span.
