I like it dark or not. However, what is with the rim (bottom reverse)?

Just bought this last week. A really nice clean problem-free half cent, with a tiny bit of color, some nice mint luster, and great mark-free surfaces. I was very happy to pick this up for $775. If this was a Morgan, I am sure it would be an MS65. I love the Classic Head design, it's one of my favorite coin designs of the early 1800's. I love Miss Liberty's hair curls flowing out on her cheek and neck. I wonder what you could buy with a half cent back in 1834?

You could buy all of those you could carry. Think of all the flowing hair coins you could could buy for just a few half cents.

Great pickup. That may be my next target.

Nice choice Lance! Glad to see you turning to the Dark Side! There are so many reasons to pass on the RD designation, but the main one for me is originality and character of coins below that designation. I'm not ruling out RD's myself either, but I'm just glad you are taking a second look at RB's! Now lets get you to take a second look at NGC graded coins......Well, uh, er.... on second though, we don't need that kind of competition out there. Just kidding, Matt

Picked this up at the flea market this past weekend, for what I felt was a great price.

Besides...gives me a chance to test the new desk lamp & scavenged mini-tripod :)

    Beautiful Columbian.

Love the 1927-D Lance. I think that is a spectacular early Lincoln. Give me BN or RB anytime.

Well, the Heritage auction has closed, and in total, I'm the proud new owner of 5 new (for me, ha) MS66FB merc dimes. The two I posted on the last page, and these three... Paid some strong money for these coins, because I think they're quite nice for the grade, I'll be disappointed if 3/5 don't CAC.

This half-cent is stunning! I love the look of old aged copper toned coins. In my opinion, there is nothing like it compared to the other metals used in coins. It appears to be in mint state condition. You just cant get any better than this coin! Truly remarkable!

You have a lovely coin there WingedLiberty! It is the one type coin that is lacking in my collection. Those half cents are rather pricey for something decent, and also you never really see them around at the coin shops that I frequent. I might just have to break down and find a half cent at one of the auction companies on the internet when I'm ready to purchase one. The coin is awesome. Congratulations.

That is a lovely wood grained cent you have there! I feel that you made the perfect choice. Congratulations on the new addition to your collection!

    GBoulton;

That is one of the nicest Columbian half dollars I have ever seen! So many of them are toned ugly or have issues. This one is full of luster and crisp brilliance.

Thanks, robec! Your new cent is a real work of art as well.

Thanks! Been pretty patient trying to find an affordable one I really liked the look of for my 7070. Rewarding to hear others share my opinion. :)

RB and BN Lincolns can be gorgeous, I agree, Matt. A set of '09-'58 wheaties is 140 coins and mine is 12% RB and 88% RD. It's too bad the TPG's are unwilling to award the highest grades to non-RD copper.

I like BN so much I built an AU set, raw, and placed them in a Dansco so I could enjoy them the way we did years ago, before slabs. It was really hard to get matching brown examples post-1930. The good stuff's all red. LOL.

No worries...I'm not going back to NGC slabs (I know you're JK). But I'm sure you know NGC registries accept PCGS-graded coins. ;)

I picked this up last week while on business in Green Bay, WI. I'm not building a set at all, just picking up nice examples as I can find them. Cameo and mirrors baby! I usually try to buy coins in 65 or higher, but these DMPLs in 3 are still really nice (and affordable)! I will try to buy as many in 63 as I can, because from what I can see, when comparing them side by side with 64s, and 65s there is little difference. As the grades go up the prices jumps many times and I can't see spending that over a tiny hit or something and I've seen coins in 65 with this much chatter on the cheek, so it really boils down to opinion at that point. I know from sending in raw submissions lately that the TPGs have PLs and DMPLs on lockdown, but maybe someday I'll crack this out and resubmit!

What are the defining characteristics of a Type C reverse? The eagle's claws?
