News from the E-sylum last night, they arrested one of the suspects. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/staten_island/coin_killer_nabbed_cops_Yem0GaVYbaPzgDT4WbCr1H
HORRIBLE! Too bad he was in NY where you can't even carry legally without a serious hassle....perhaps he could have defended himself otherwise.I refuse to ever live in a state that denies me the right to concealed carry.
If this suspect turns out to be one of the perps, he needs to be taken off the street permanently. Hopefully, they'll get all three perps. Interesting that the perps seemed to know where the victim lived.
It's a good chance he was one of the perps or at least he will probably know them. His fingerprints were found inside the car.
Was this car owned by the perps? Or was it carjacked? I'm getting really confused here. So, from what I gather from the news article and assorted comments: Three perps abducted the coin dealer as he was getting in his car. While the perps were described as "thieves" in the NY Daily News article, and the article made it sound like they beat him up while he was still in the parking lot of his shop, he was actually beaten while in the perps' black Volvo, then dumped in his own neighborhood, without actually being robbed? Then the perps abandoned their black Volvo two blocks away, after one of them got out to strip off some blood-stained clothes and dump them in a sewer? It all sounds so bizarre to me. According to the NY Daily News article, there were some witnesses in the victim's neighborhood. If the suspect is identified by the witnesses, or the fingerprints have the victim's blood/DNA, then that would be a good start in catching the other two. But if that is not the case?
Looks like a hit, or more like a message that got out a hand. They were probably trying to get some info out of him, Being they didn't rob him. Or more likely they did but police don't want to list items this way its easier to track. One thing is for sure, Badthad put it perfectly if he lived in a state where you didn't have to jump through 2" hoops when your 6' to be able to carry/ conceal. He would still be alive or at worst wounded :rollling:. People are never going to wake up until something like this happens to someone close. Its sad. And NJ is the worst for arming the criminals and letting civilians fend for them selves. JMHO
Colorado is a right to carry state... Everyone BUT criminals can carry a concealed weapon as long as they take the proper training... If you want to have a coin business, best to do it in a state like Colorado... Doug
If he was thumped from behind and incapacitated, then having a gun wouldn't have helped him. If it was a hit, then the thugs would have been waiting until he was in the most vulnerable position (bending over to load stuff in his car?) before jumping him, so a gun probably wouldn't have helped him then either, especially if one of the thugs had held a gun to his head. They apparently didn't use a gun on him, but what are the odds that none of the three thugs was carrying a gun?
I'd say the odds were probably a 50/50 chance. Either they were or they weren't. You can speculate about this either way. Maybe he would have had a chance being armed.....maybe not. The point is, many of us would rather have seen the guy have even a 10% chance of surviving the attack than the 0% chance he did have. We can't turn this thread into a debate on concealed carry though or it will be locked like the last one I posted. The fact of the matter is, the US went from a handful of states having carry laws 20 years ago to now 49 out of 50 states allow citizens to carry, varying from very restrictive to some states you don't even need a permit to carry. NY is one that is very restrictive. Especially in the city where it's needed the most. That's the facts.
Sorry I know my post is a little stretch. Just I can't help but feel he would of had a better chance at survival. I am doubtful the out come would be different. It just would be better knowing he died with a gun on him. It ****es me off that these things happen, I feel for his family, this is the sad truth people don't see when their sitting in their safe secure gated community, Spear heading the NRA. Its sad a member of our community has been stripped from us. I didn't know him personally nor had I made it to his store, But it was on my list being only an hr away. One things for sure theirs a lot more to this story thats not being said. I know what I'm about to say isn't going to be viewed the right way by all, but imagine he had a hamerless 38 snub nose tucked away. And for an instant they took their attention off him because they thought they saw a cop. All witnesses saw were three flashes followed by three bangs. Then a man crawling out of a now crashed car, Beaten and bloody he gets to his feet and screams. "I haven't completed my Bust collection yet." LOL God bless him, and his family!! Even the perps family. Anyone know if theirs a Co Owner or If the shop will be kept open.
Vess1 didn't see your post, wasn't aware of pg 2. I'll just say I enjoy your views, To bring this back more into coins. Its sad we've lost one of our own. I saw that he gave free appraisals, and invited people to get other opinions. Has anyone ever visited his shop, if so how was your experience. You know being one of our own what if we set up an arrangement for the family. Or something like that. Should I start a new thread or continue it on this one. I'd be willing to collect money to send the family some sort of sorry for your loss, I'll post the receipt and shipping conf. so this way everyone can see the money raised was fully spent. Just an idea anyone want to do this?? If so post what your willing to donate and I'll PM you my paypal address, or I can just post it here depending on if its within the rules. Im not sure if I need x amount of posts.
Too bad NY gave up on capital punishment, it would be too good for the creeps who did this. Fortunately CT will be offing a crook soon for a hideous crime.
