I thought you paid way too much for the nickels. But if you're finding buyers at $1 apiece, then you made a good purchase no matter what anyone says about their future value (assuming you can sell enough of them now).

If you're going for metal value, you're better off buying nickels or pre-1982 cents at face, or buying the 99.9% Canadian nickels near melt.

I haven't started really hoarding the American nickels yet because I think they'll get a little cheaper in terms of real value before they go up (when the US changes the composition). In other words I don't want them to sit around losing value while there is no market for them.

No, I was saying I hoard Ikes. Up to like over $500 now. Gonna try to get a bag of $1k (Cherrypicked, mind you) and put 'em on eBay for $1500 and see if I get any takers.

I also have hoards of pre-'60 nickels and wheaties, though.

I'll take the 2009 nickels and dimes any chance I've got. They're tough to find.

I think this statement is as close as you can get, but back it up to 2004, cut it at 2009. These specific dates...2004-2008 Roosies are tough in high grade (only going by PCGS pops...don't know about NGC). However, those that THINK 2009 dated Roosies are 'winneres', no offense intended, are wrong. According to pops, 2004 was the last year of 100+ coins graded in MS67FB until 2009, with 222 2009-P being graded (MS67FB being highest), and 161 2009-D being graded (MS68FB being highest graded). I, myself, bought a couple of rolls of '09-P & D nickels and dimes (in mid '09) for approx $10 each, just to see what might happen with them. I sold them on ebay for almost $30 each early/mid 2010. No way you could get half that much now. I would NEVER pay much more than face for a roll of '09's (P or D). If you can get them at face, you might make out a LITTLE bit (in box quantity), but there is nothing about the '09's that make them 'rare' or 'winners'. I believe the only real clad 'winners' (NOT rare...except in the highest grade) are the '82 and '83's (not including errors, varieties)...and we all know why those are the real 'winners' of clad coinage.

IF someone can find enough unknowledgable collectors to spend crazy $$ on '09's, more power to you...sell all you can now. They will NOT be rare.

OK, I'll sell them to you at half that price. :)

I find them here in Houston every so often.

Why are the 82 and 83s winners?
