Didn't post any pictures but just got an order back from ANACS: 2 1995 DDO cents ms66 red and ms64 red. 1875 S 20 cent VG8. 1934 Texas Comm half MS64. 1942 proof cent, dime and quarter all PR63.
You know what I really love about the walkers is that even circulated ones are quite beautiful and attractive looking. I wonder if that was a consideration when the coin was designed?
Illini420, Those 1909 VDB brown cents are lovely. My favorite is the third one though. It appears to have some toning. Quite impressive. I don't mind brown coins at all when so many want red the brown gets passed by. That leaves more treats for us! Congratulations on your new acquisitions.
So I googled "hobo nickels" and it said nickels that are defaced (carved) to look like the face of a hobo or another type of person. What I don't understand is why the nickel 3 posts above was labeled a Hobo ... it looks normal to me.
i still don't get it ... what does an altered date have to do with a hobo? oh well ... never mind ... i don't want to hijack this thread.
I don't think I have seen this coin before that I can remember. I really like it though, do you mind me asking how much you paid for it? Either way awesome coin nice pickup!
Here's my new Gold Indian 1908. Just picked it up today and I was looking to show it off. I love these gold Indian's but just the $2.50's. :thumb:
Nice gold Indian, fretboard! Illini's recent post of toned 1909 vdb's really inspired me to hunt one down. This example I bought tonight is 2 grades lower than the gem coins Illini posted but I really liked the color.
Although the original meaning of "hobo nickel" was as you described, the broader meaning has come to include just about any Indian head nickel or nickel with an Indian head design that has been altered for novelty purposes.
