I wondered that myself, and tried to look it up. I do know metal studs were used in commercial construction long before it was used in residential, but I could not find out how far back.
A pair of socks (then anyone can think : "that socks !!!" :dead-horse Sorry, but I had to make this one Q
Steel studs were first used right after WWII by Japan. So many homes were destroyed and they would have needed about 150 years worth of tree growth to rebuild using wood studs.
Sorry, it's not mine..it's just a stock avatar i found somewhere on the web. I WISH it was mine. LOL :rollling:
I am the same age, but in constructon... I don't know exactly, but my gut says that steel studs in 1968 commercial construction are probably unusual. I'd bet they were around, but not used much yet. In 68 wood wall studs were certainly far cheaper in price and labor. If the safe was walled in with wood studs, I'd be inclined to think it could have been done secretly, as anyone can build a wall from 2x4s. Nails and a hammer are about all it takes. Steel studs, even today, are more specialized, and take special tools to install. Therefore, Joe Blow didn't just secretly install steel studwalls late one night in 1968. They were installed with specialized, and very noisy, tools by someone who worked day in and out with steel studs. Not the best situation to keep secrets. My guess is that the safe was abandon, and covered over. Happens all the time with all sorts of things in buildings. Seen it many times, although not specifically a safe.
Not everybody has a safe to store stolen items.I don't know of any law in the US or Canada, where it is illegal to open a safe or or any kind hidden box to see whats inside. Being in possesion of stolen and illegal goods is different story no matter where they are stored.
As I was flipping through old subscriptions to threads, cleaning up, I came upon this one and wondered whatever happened.. Google tells me that Oprah got the exclusive on that deal, and was to reveal the contents on show. That may have happened..I don't know. The article said 'in a month or so', and that was a September article. In any event, the contents must not have been earth-shattering. In case anyone wondered..
I am an avid Reddit user, where the guy first posted he found the safe. There has been no update there.
I think the bottle cap/cork and the label of the gin with secret account number of WHATTTTTTTTTTTT? Dunooo.
And they will find the link to his ebay auction selling the rolls as "unsearched" in the safe as well. Everybody should know the big secret.
