I have been collecting all the proof silver eagles and some uncirulated ones from the mint. I now see a lot of hype about the uncirculated "S" mint ASE. Is this someting new ? I tried gettting a slabbed one from Universal for $ 46.00 but they sold out to fast.

It's a bunch of hype about nothing.

Business strike ASEs have no mint mark.
However, the mint announced that they were doing some overflow production this year at the SF mint...
So, now you can buy a mint sealed 'monster box' and send it to the TPGs, and get your ASEs slabbed as "S" mint, even though there is no mint mark on the coin. It's a money making scam. There is no way to tell the coins apart outside the slab, and you cannot get one slabbed unless it is sealed in an SF box. Proof positive that it's a bunch of crap. My .02...

Are you talking about the burnished proofs, by any chance? They have a noticeably different finish and were minted in smaller quantities.

Shape shifter coin.......The elusive "s" "s-less". Takin' the word of the TPG'er and everyone knows their word is gospel. Rubbish. Hang out and wait till October when you can get the opportunity to pick up a genuine "S" eagle....

The "S" mint silver eagles from the S.F. mint should be the same as the regular mints silver eagles. I'm sure there will be sufficient scrutiny to try and prove some minute differernce between the 2 minted coins. I believe it is a US MINT business' ploy to sell more ASE Silver Coins. Why wouldn't they? They've sold out all the bullion coins before, and wouldn't produce the unc. coins later.

Well seeing as no eagles have been minted at san fran since '92, people figured grab one now just in case they dont do san fran again! I love my perfect s.f.!

I'm still curious why no one has sent them some unopened West Point monster boxes and requested 2011-(W) slabs. After all if you can hype 2011-(S) ASE's with no mintmark, why can't you hype certified 2011-(W) ASE's with no mintmark?
