IMO - to someone that collects counterstamps you might get a little more than melt - maybe $20 to $25. Interesting, I was in the navy but to me there would be no added value. Lets see if someone that likes counterstamps has a differing opinion.
If it's not a well documented counterstamp (who, what, why, where, when), then it just seems like PMD to me...(jmho).
Good to have you here dann. Your counterstamp may be a goverment inspector's stamp of some sort. There are many examples of the initials "U.S." being used either by itself or with a caption or another symbol. I would think yours was stamped during the WW ll by a governmental inspector or contractor manufacturing something for the war effort. While the counterstamp looks familiar to me, I can't find it in any of my references on the subject. I agree, there would be a small premiun above melt for your coin. Nice counterstamp. Bruce
That's actually a neat looking piece. Since my pops was a retired navy man, I would love to have something like that in my collection.
That's a nice pickup for only $18 dann. I could see it getting 40 or $50 from a collector. Above and beyond the counterstamp those struck on the larger silver coins generally are more appealing to collectors. Bruce
thanks ,,,, i knew my girlfriend was wrong when she said everything i buy is junk its got me looking foward to posting pics of some other coins i have.
