I too have admired the gold 20 peso and wish I had a few in my collection. There's an older 1oz silver with the Aztec calendar that is also very attractive. The Aztec calendar (sun stone) is intriguing in it's detail, symbology, and history. I also like the nice pre-Columbian series of coins but don't have any yet.

I was lucky to have placed the winning bid on this coin in one of the last Heritage monthly world auctions. I don't collect this series, but I'm into older large colorful dark brown gemmy copper. Probably went low because it is some kind of common coin, but in this condition it is desirable to me.

This coin came out of the same sale. Its graded a 65 BN. Unlike the 8 Doubles above, I do collect Mexican coinage. The eagle on this coin has some really cool chest feather detail, but overall it is just a cool copper type coin.

I picked this big' ol coin up for pretty much bullion and rightly so, but I really dig the coins large size and thin pastel champagne green and yellow toning. Maybe due to the coins light silver content. Anyway, I like this coins size and matching color and it fits well into my Mexican collection. It was graded a MS 63 probably because the rim ding at 12 0clock, but that bothers me little. I stockpile raw foreign and once a year send them in in one large submission. More to follow.......Thanks, Matt

I just weighed the platinum coin and it comes in at 7.99 grams, much less than the 8.33 grams of an authentic 100 reales gold coin. So maybe it was too underweight to bother trying to plate it?

Interesting, since platinum weighs more than gold, you would think it would be other way around.

Bought this coin raw at a local coin shop last year. It recently graded MS 64 BN! These can be tough to lay hands on these certified, so I try to buy them raw and have them certified myself. Another one he had that I bought at the same time graded MS 62 which I hope to sell someday soon to help absorb the cost of this one. The woodgrain on the obverse is pretty cool too I would say. I never get tired of that eagle with snake and it looks great in this metal IMO. Thanks, Matt

Nice coin. I'm curious why you chose a world coin instead of a US coin as your first proof (if its any of my business).

Exceptionally well struck for the design, usually the portrait in particular is kind of mushy on the larger 100 Peso with the same design.

Well, I love these coins. I think its the designs. I havent found a coin from the US(silver) that has caught my eye. But I'm always up for suggestions :)

Well welcome to the world of world coins then. Pretty much how most of us got started with it, we liked the art better, or at least that certainly applies to me as well. I also had a real tough time with idea of collecting by date and mint mark. Was fun enough with Lincoln pennies, but the Mercury dime series was kind of a joke, every single coin was available for melt except the 1921, 1921-d, and 1926-s which cost maybe $20 or $25 for a decent about-good. And then there was the 1916-d which costs over a thousand in any kind of decent condition. I just had a hard time rationalizing that kind of money for a coin that was identical in every way except a single digit to the 1936-d which costs about $10 in gem BU. And then there was the rarity factor, the 1916-d for all its cost isn't even rare, there are dozens advertised for sale in nearly any coin publication.

    But I digress...

Anyway, if you're still pretty new at it, you must (not maybe, MUST) get a copy of Krause Standard Catalog of World Coins. The 20th century volume is the most popular, they also publish a 21st century volume along with 19, 18, and 17th century. Fifty bucks sounds like a lot of money for a book, but believe me, its worth it. After you've spent a few evenings looking through the 2,000+ pages you will have a better idea of which coins you like and want to pursue. Or at least that's how it started out for me. The first time I looked through it, I couldn't get past Albania, the designs were that cool. Many of them expensive and I figured I would never own any of them. Well, fast forward 25 years and it turns out I have picked up a nice collection of them over the years.

In any case, good luck with it and welcome aboard.

Super coin, looks like an MS66 easy. I have been watching eBay for the 1908 Corona, the 60th anniversary issue. Would love to add a high end example (like yours) to the collection to go along with my Lady In The Clouds 100 Corona, but every one I've seen is way overpriced. If its any of my business, how much do you have in this one??

I paid 720 yen ($9.50) for that coin about 15 years ago.

15 years ago? That's your newest acquistion?? --LoL(!) But seriously, $9.50 sounds about right, and I would expect the 1908 was selling for something like $11 back then. Now, there are sellers wanting $175 for the 1908 even though there are half a dozen of them listed. Seems to me, $35 would be more like it.

First two pics are what it looked like coming off a Transfer Floor. Last 2 pics are after a little TLC
Their was about 30 World Coins that were getting run over by the loader, just sitting in a slurry of garbage juice.
Can I post the pics of the others as well or should I start a new, or find a thread they will fit into. Thanks.

It's not my newest foreign acquisition, but I just found it after 15 (?) years. So in that respect, it is my newest "acquisition". LOL.

By the way, 15 years ago, 720 yen was roughly equal to $6.
