My mom has a really good camera, one of those big ones, I think an SLR camera by Nikon, I tried it out to take pictures without the flash in direct light, the pictures came out pretty well in terms of glare, but they are a little out of focus, here are some examples, I think I need to take head on shots and not shake the camera at all while pressing the button. Any other suggestions?
More light - Up your aperture, ISO to about 800 or so, and meter your shutter - don't use flash (you were right in that aspect) and get as close to the coin as you can with your lens while it still focuses sharp on the coin. Don't go closer than that because your lens won't be able to focus at such close ranges, unless you have a macro. When in doubt, manual focusing helps. Source: I'm a Professional Photographer.
Keep practacing try using the Macro feature the flower setting. Nikon D90, Nikon Nicor 105mm, Manuel lens, Copy Stand, remote shutter release, Halogen lighting.
Yep, thanks for the advice, I saved it in a word document, now I have to learn how to do all of that.
Also, use a tripod or copy stand (to keep the camera steady) along with employing a shutter release or timer.
Those look great! Nice job. The only thing I would have done is just drop your shutter one more click - they look just a tad underexposed - but otherwise, very nice!!!
