No. And no, you didn't miss it. What I posted was an actual nomination sent to me by PM. I merely copied and pasted it here to show how easy it was. One way or the other - to nominate a post you have to send me a PM. Now you can send me a PM with a link to the thread that contains the post you want to nominate along with the post # of that post. Or you can click on the Permalink at the top right of each post, that puts the link for that specific post in you brower's address box, then copy/paste that and send it to me in a PM. (that's what was done in the one posted as an example)
Now that was simple enough. Why has this generated 30 posts and started with a book length novel? Good to Go.. Ruben
Well let's see Ruben, I've explained it 4 times now in this thread. here - http://www.cointalk.com/t107395-2/#post887506 here - http://www.cointalk.com/t107395-2/#post887786 here - http://www.cointalk.com/t107395/#post889449 and in the post where I quoted you. Read the thread from beginning to end and I think you'll see the answer to your question.
This thread has brought forth some quality discussion. I regret I might have been one of the "newer member" distractors. Perhaps, still in the mode of taking and not having much to offer yet - except for my sincere appreciation. There are a number of members that I try to keep tabs on such as PennyLady, GDJMSP, Green18, Duke, Zarah?, Orca?, MCPUSA and others. The PennyLady has posted a few indepth and helpful threads in recent weeks that I wish to review again and perhaps utilize as a reference for guildlines to future reading/posts.
When I first registered here, it seemed like a cool place to talk coins. I posted threads, got some comments, and felt a part of it here. Then all of a sudden, the board goes through this revamp. After that update, I would post, and within hours the post would vanish. Moreover, the Hot Springs Doubled Die thread became unavailable to people trying to reach it by clicking on the Google link. I asked admin to fix it, THREE TIMES. NADA. So the board became (1)easy to manipulate by admin (or some punk cracker), and (2)worse admin sat idly by while poster needs were ignored. So that's what happens when the chilling effect sets in either through apathy or design. Folks find themselves somewhere else to exchange information, and a wonderful avenue for idea exchange evaporates. That's my take. But for fun, test my comment for yourself. Google Got Springs Doubled Dies. Click on Coin Talk's link. Good luck, (and perhaps good riddance), for some, clearly.
I've just joined Coin Talk, so this thread is really interesting because it gives me an idea of the sites progress over the years. I was looking at the articles and advice forum and it would be great to see that up and running again, with more people posting articles. I have a few articles (mainly directed at those that are 'newbies' and focused a lot on rare South African coins that I would like to post.
Hello SouthCapeCoins, Welcome to CT.:smile I look forward to seeing your posts regarding South African coins. The best place to put the post might be in the World & ancient forum. Very best regards, collect89
Threads so still exsist here at CT. threads from 6 years ago and still firing up. it has over 15k post.
"Hey there is great stuff here all the time, what are you talking about?". Couldn't pass that up! I too enjoyed the great threads...
We try not to do too many sticky threads. We do have the "Best of CoinTalk" section now, though, were we've been putting some of the best posts, have you seen that yet?
No I haven't seen that section I'll check it out. Thanks for maintaining such an interesting helpful site. Mike
I will look for that Best of Coin Talk section but if it means anything to someone who is looking for great threads I would reccommend looking up National Dealer under members and then look for any threads he started. Seem to remember some good stuff from him. Doug had some top shelf threads as well if I remember correctly, I just remember some good informative stuff.
This thread has actually got me thinking, It's been a long, long time since I wrote any factual 'educational' style posts. I used to do a lot on British coins back in the day. But I figure Doug hit the nail on the head, as writers we've only got so much new stuff to give, once it's been done, it's done. Sure you always learn new things but with my semi-retirement from collecting in 2005 I've been out of the coin collecting loop for some time and my how things have move on! I fear I have much more to learn these days than to give!
Recently I read a thread depicting and describing the newest 2011 SC DDO. The only one found to date. This thread initiated by one of the foremost experts (in my opinion) in the field was met with a lot of negative response. It seems that responders didn't feel the error was noteworthy enough for mention. The last statement by the OP I read was "he was not going to post on this forum anymore". I believe some experts feel they could put their time to better use ? Man, these guys have taught me a lot over the past several months. I soaked it in like a sponge. Read and reread a lot of articles, followed posted links several hours each day to glean more knowledge. I imagine I will continue to learn, but losing some of these guys really hurts. gary
sylvester ! Man I thought you fell off the planet It's good to see ya ! Hopefully you stop by more often Maybe so Gary, but if people get their feelings hurt because others do not agree with them or hold the same point of view as them, and then stop posting because of that - what does that say about that person ?
Yeah I did, I only just got back In all honesty though it has been a long time, been quite busy since leaving university, work and what not, glad to be back though, I hope you are well too Doug, how's the old ducat collection is going?
You got some catching up to do I sold my entire collection and stopped collecting coins over 5 years ago.
