it really annoys me when some body comes here asking for help and some of the members decided to act like baffoons, because then the new member thinks that every one here is like that and thus will not return to the site. as for the coin. it is not gold as far as i can tell from the pics it is cast. the word joppa doesnt refer to a lodge name as previously suggested but instead referes to a holy city that is important in freemasonary. i beleive that this may have been as a one off to commemorate some event.
I'd like to see the statistics of member retention after their first thread. This is how it goes: 1. Newbie starts thread, usually "What is it worth" 2. Several knowledgeable members contribute 3. Newbie leaves like a fart in the wind, never to be heard from again. The guy posted a picture of two ambiguous pieces. Yeah, some members on here know about them, but not many. Sorry I failed to entertain you. Please stop getting all worked up over things so trivial.
What Chris is trying to say to you is 100% correct, And you should take note of what that is. When a persons starts this hobby a medal like that one or even a scrap penny found on the street can be what ignits the interest amd opens the door to our hobby. If that person comes in here asking for advice on his banged up penny from 2006 and get´s a reply like i´m seeing here. Well that could be the water that puts out the fire. You should always treat people with respect and specially when a person with limited ammount of knowlidge seeks help. Either you help or you can just stay away from topics like this one if it bothers you that he will most likely never come back. Siggi
I understand and respect your intentions in this statement. Allow me to ask you this. At what time did the OP disclose his intentions of collecting? He simply wanted to know the value, and nothing more.
So, you've made an assumption about the OP based upon your preconceived notion about all newbies. You don't see me making assumptions about your parents because of your conduct, do you? Chris
This. It's one thing if it's somebody you have a e-lationship with, it's another if it's a new poster coming here for info. There are boatloads of knowledge here, and if somebody is looking to obtain some the chicanery can really turn them off. There are plenty of threads to have fun with and troll each other back and forth with comedy, sarcasm and humor. The trick is to know which to do that in. /rant
Thanks protovdo, My point is that I know some people for instance in our club who came to us first for (pricing). Something they inherited or were given. Some leave and never come back but some stayed and are valued members of our club. Even though people are only asking for advice you might set something in motion that the person will figure out later in life. I´m just saying ( respectfully ) to you that you have the power of knowlidge. You should use it wisely and give poeple a part of that if you can. It´s what made me go into the hobby and so many others have started out that way as well. Siggi
It is possible that Joppa is as you state; however, in the search I did through the lodges, Joppa is the name of several lodges in different states, but the number 29 does not come up. I found a Joppa No. 26 in the southwest, and another Joppa No. 74 in the midwest, but no 29.
You're just the gift that keeps on giving, aren't you? Let us revisit the original post, shall we BU uncirculated? Sounds like the dude wants an in depth run down on the historical significance of the two pieces.
The Two pieces, are both sides of only one piece. If you had put the energy into looking for info on this token, as you did making the OP feel bad for coming here looking for some info it, you might have found that out as I did. At least I made the effort to search for info on this token and try to help the OP out. And this is still the Coin Chat section of the forum, not What It's Worth.
Me thinks you take yourself too seriously. It might surprise you to learn no one else does. To hear you describe it, my good natured (and accurate I might add) reply was some sort of dig meant to push some new contributor into such mental anguish and torment that we all need to collectively intervene in some sort of suicicide watch. I mean geeez, lighten up and cut us a little slack why don't you.
You can make all the rationalizations (excuses) you want, but the bottom line is the OP hasn't posted since you and eldopo made your remarks. I'm sure Peter is very proud of you. Chris
