I use BCW Semi-rigid top loaders for my large and small size curency. I was unable to find these for my fractionals, so I use normal fractional top-loaders for those.

Here's a page I put together for new collectors, you might find it useful to read. It has a link to Clay Irving's great write-up on holders. Personally I get mine from Denly's.

    Thank you

Also - I've tried taking additional photos that show the color better, to no avail. I have a family member that is into photography and has nice equipment. Next time I see her, I'm going to ask her to take the photos

I assume you don't have a scanner? That's what most of us would use rather than a camera.

I do have a scanner - perhaps I'll put the notes on the scanner and see how they come out. Anything special to do with them or just place them on the glass and scan?

You should have them in holders if you don't already, but then yes put the note, holder and all, on the scanner, set to 300dpi and scan away. Typically 300dpi is what folks will "archive", but reduce to something like 100dpi to post on forums or web sites.

VERY Nice Notes! I LOVE the educational series but I only want ones in as close to UC as possible and that grade is a little out of my means. You have a very nice start! Congrats!

I have another question for you guys (and gals). I had put the notes into semi-rigid holders but today I picked up a few of the Collectors safe hard plastic holders for large notes. They remind me of the fancier baseball card holders from when I was a kid. It looks like you line up the note inside the depression and then snap on the top.

Any reason I should avoid these types of holders? When I saw them, I purchased them just because I thought it would be great for the kids to be able to pick them up, turn them around etc. and I wouldn't have to feel like I needed to stand over them or almost hold them myself.

I appreciate any additional input you have.

Nice notes! I like the second through fourth notes. I collect obsolete bank notes.

I believe the Collector Safe hard "plastic" holders are made from Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) which is fine for archival storage.

Thank you - I'm kind of nervous to put them in it now. I don't want to mess them up and add creases because I didn't line it up properly

I'm bumping this thread because I was looking at these notes again recently with my son and we were trying to figure out how they would grade. Right now they'e in hard plastic holders - but I have two opinion questions for you all

    1. What would you guess the grade would be on the 1896 silver certificate and;
    2. Would you consider getting any of them graded by a TPG?

    Thanks

Yes those are nice notes and a great price.

As for TPGing I'd do the 1923 Red seal and the Education only.

Yacorie, if you are interested in fractional notes like I am, I'd like to highly recommend Robert J. Kravitz book : "A Collector's Guide to Postage and Fractional Currency." It's easy reading(big print) and the history of this currency is so interesting. The book will greatly aid you in grading these notes too.
Thank you RickyB for recommending this book about a year ago. It is a great reference book too.

Hey thanks zekeguzz! I've been looking for a good fractional book, since I'm starting to amass a mini horde of fractionals.
