Looking for help on a 1783 Colonial Coin

    A friend of mine has this coin, but don't know if it's real. Can anyone give me some information on it? Thanks in Advance

    Sorry but it is a cast counterfeit of a genuine early copper - Nova Constellatio.

    Hobo .... what is it about the coin that makes it that obvious? I certainly could'nt have given him an answer either way, I'm just curious. Thanks

    Lack of detail (fuzziness), the graininess of the coin on the whole tend to point to a cast counterfeit.

    That's right. Look at the surfaces of the coin. Nothing is smooth. Everything is grainy and pockmarked.

    That looks like one of those souvenir coins that are sold in gift shops in historical areas. I bought a few like that in Massachusetts (Sturbridge, Plymouth) several years ago
