I think perhaps you are confused. My coin was altered. No question about it. It was a genuine Mercury dime later altered with fake Lincoln cent dies. I am asking if anyone can see anything specific proving *why my coin is an alteration*. Does it have features from other known fakes, and if so, what exactly? My images are razor sharp. Showing it from other angles does nothing. She posted a known genuine coin. I already know about that one.
What better way to tell? You should have been more specific and if you have the coin in hand why would it be a problem to post others. Many times I’m asked to post other angles. I just gave my opinion and looked for one that is “legit”. If you want to spend your money on possibly fake coins, your choice. Thanks and good luck!
That's not what you said, earlier, here. Here you were questioning whether it was altered... So now you say it was altered. How are you arriving at that? I hope not on the strength of "there are a lot of good fake cent dies out there." If so, just reflect a minute, and consider what you're asking. You're asking if we could tell a good fake cent die from the real die. If we could, how good would it be? And on what, two pictures? I'm not giving it to you. I'm just wondering why you're reluctant to send it in where it could be examined. Let them figure it out, that's what they do. Then you'll know for sure.
My opinion of course. As Eddie said, if one wants opinions to see if it’s a good detailed fake or not one may be surprised when they ask why?
Hey Ya'll I knew that the coin was a test. I think you were all I still wonder if @JCro57 will give up his tells, as to why it is an altered coin. I think that the heavy cleaning was an attempt at making the coin look more acceptable.
I just saw this thread and the more that I look at that coin, the more it looks cast with the harsh cleaning an attempt to smooth the cast surface. Edit to add: It could have been struck with a cast cent die and give it that same appearance. The wheat ears look cast as well as IGWT.
Here's my observation of this coin . How in God's creation could a Lincoln cent outer devices show up on a dime planchet impossible . A dime is much smaller than a cent and no way would the outer devices show up on that dime for that cent .
